Some racers are using a voltage regulator with lipo and some do not. I would like to here more on if you need a regulator or not form racers using lipo receiver packs.

You know how I feel about it. I run one.

latemodel100

I will tell you, I am gonna try to run it with out a regulator, thank god I have back up receivers and servos, if I blow one out I will tell you.............

McLin

WAIT! That's one heck of an expensive "test". Consider this:

1- servos are desigined to operate at 6 volts

2- Your lipo pack will charge to 8.4 volts

3- before anyone asked YES we use to run 6 cells with clost to the same voltage BUT the voltage went straight into the speedcontrol that has a 6 volt regulator in it.

4- my servos are expensive, the regulator is around 30 bucks

I use the cheap servos, i would not blow up my good ones, LOL........ I will pick up a regulator anyway.........

I forgot to mention that the receiver falls into that catagory too. LOL They have the
regulators at The Hobby Connection at Easley.

I can tell you that i did try one, and i had a regulator with it, and it still blowed the servo's. I can not tell you if i had it hooked up correctly or not. I tryed to hook it up like the guys at the hobbyshop told me too, but who knows i may have still hooked it up wrong, did not want to take the chance again, so it's in the cabinet for now. Scared to try it again. It would have been a neat little setup if it had of worked. Later-THE PHENOM:thumbsup:

What will you gain from a receiver Lipo pack? Stick with the LT (Low Technology) Stuff to keep it simple.

Options thats all I think,................

McLin

Mike, the biggest gain for me was not to worry about charging the thing all day (practice and all). It's a bit lighter too if you need to take any weight off.

As for the regulator, I have never ran without one, Sam on the other hand has never ran "with" one. So go figure.

I have a Venom device on my car that reads head temp and battery voltage and, with the regulator, it maintains a constant 5.9 volts to the receiver........all day!

It just makes that part of the deal one less thing I don't have to be concerned about.

McLin

I just checked my car, it's been sitting since the nats...........still 5.9!

Sounds great gonna make the switch as soon as my regulator gets here.
