Well we're having a heck of time here! Rain, rain, rain, and more rain. Our Mark Twain Lake was about to go over the Cannon dam. They're releasing over 300,000 gallons of water per second into Salt River. Sunday they sent out our volunteer firefighters to help the sheriff's dept to forewarn & evacuate campers & residents. The lake is closed completely to boat traffic until further notice. This is going to dampen the St. Louis boaters that come up here every weekend.

Salt River runs about a mile from our house (but we're on high ground). It's almost touching the bottom of the bridges that cross it. Highway 61 runs from St. Louis to St. Paul as a 4 lane highway. This could get interesting.
There's a major creek that is also causing problems. It's coming out of its banks too which floods a lot farmland, homes, and cuts off country black tops.

Here in New London Salt River has cut off the eastern highway out of town about a mile out, the western highway is cut off about 5 miles out. Rumor has it they may close Hwy. 61 if things do not go well. As in more rain.

First the battle was with the mighty Mississippi River, now we're up against little ole Salt River that isn't so little anymore. :(

Bummer. Where am I going to set up the bleachers in the sun?
