This was truly a classic giant monster movie, and as much as I like Godzilla, this scared the tar out of me as a kid. It has been out on dvd for a while now through various copies but this is an official release along with Rodan as well. A double dvd set! Check out the details on amazon. My only gripe is that it is'nt in widescreen.:freak: Someone please tell me I'm wrong!!

According to the Sci-Fi Japan website, Gargantuas will indeed be in widescreen. The disc will contain both Japanese and American versions of the film.

The confusion maybe from the fact that Gargantuas is being sold as part of a two pack that includes Rodan. Rodan was not a Tohoscope film so it is not represented as a widescreen release.

In June, I bought a DVD of the War of the Gargantuas at a local store in the Los Angeles area. It comes with two discs. The first one is the Widescreen version - in Japanese, with English subtitles. The second one is the Fullscreen version with English dubbed in. The widescreen looks great!

These are the last two in the Sony Classics line. Each release has been widescreen (except for those that were not filmed in widescreen - Gojira, Gojira Raids Again, Rodan). Each includes the original Japanese edit with subtitles as well as the dubbed American release version. In only one case was he American version not the full widescreen aspect ratio but slightly cropped, due to the quality of that print.

I've always heard good things about the original music for WotG, which the usual U.S. version apparently does not have. Anyone know if the Japanese version will have it? Couldn't really tell from Amazon's description.

Of the DVD I bought, I only saw a few minutes of the Japanese version. There is a difference in the editing (and order) of some scenes with respect to the English version. As far as the music, it was the same as the English - for the few minutes that I watched it.

War of the Gargantuas was always my favorite giant sized monster movie. To me it was better than Godzilla. The green gartua was scarier than King Kong.

I never heard anything about the music. But, it was good music. I never heard this music in any other film and it seemed to fit so well to gargantuas.
