View Full Version : Off Topic but Thought I'de Share
AcesFull 07-29-2008, 08:10 PM I know this has nothing to do with slotcars, but I thought I would share with the community. I lowsided my GSX-R600 on Saturday doing a spirited canyon run up to Big Bear. The rear tire broke loose on me and here are the results. I was wearing my helmet, JR fully padded textile jacket, JR gloves and Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots and literally walked away with a single spot of road rash on my right leg about the size of 2 sliver dollars. I'm one lucky guy. Enjoy the pics.
tjd241 07-29-2008, 08:17 PM Safety gear saved yer hide no doubt. Glad yer okay... whew! nd
coach61 07-29-2008, 08:54 PM Glad yer ok.. Glad you pointed out you had your melon cap on.. wish everyone would wear the right gear..
sethndaddy 07-29-2008, 09:14 PM WOW, I would be praising God and Life and all those little things you (not you, just people in general) take for granted.
1976Cordoba 07-29-2008, 09:17 PM WOW dude -- Glad you are OK!
Shame about the bike -- looks like a total loss.
Stuff like this is why I wear a full face helmet. Since I sold my crotch rocket (Yamaha YZF600R) I have gotten away from my heavy Joe Rocket jacket and gloves (on a Suzuki Blulevard M50 cruiser now). If I sell my T/A and get the new Suzuki GSX60F I will definitely be back in my full safety gear.
That sucks about your bike but at least you are OK. There are always more bikes.

I have never ridden without gear and never will. Even this little spot of road rash kills and has me limping around. My wife has asked me to lay off riding for a while. It will be tough as I've been riding for over 20 years, but with our 5th kid due in September I will grant her request.
ScottD961 07-30-2008, 10:12 AM Glad to hear that you are all right !
roadrner 07-30-2008, 10:55 AM Ouch! Glad to hear you survived with minimal damage. Too bad about your bike. At least you had protection on. I see so many riding with literally nothing on but regular jeans and sneakers and no helmet. Why take the chance? There's too many idiots out there with 4 wheels or more that will take you out in a heartbeat accidentally. :freak: rr
roffutt 07-30-2008, 01:21 PM Whoa dude.. glad your alright! Really puts things in perspective.
I hope this give more time to race some slots!

Pete McKay 07-30-2008, 01:57 PM I see guys in my club riding with dog dish helmets all the time, I'm one of the few that rides with an open face, but full coverage helmet. Every run we go on someone always eats it hard and winds up with some sort of head trauma. Even the best riders can experience a bike failure, it don't matter how fast you're going, I've seen this sort of damage as low as 25 mph before. You got off very well but you prepared for it well too. I've been lucky to not have a catastrophic bike crash but I got hit in the knee once by a rock at highway speeds and it broke my kneecap. Now my chaps have extra knee protection too.

Sure will. I had to quit my second full time job as I can no longer make it through traffic and get to work on time since I'm driving the pickup now. Back to a single full time job, so there will be an economic impact, but it's a good break.
AfxToo 07-31-2008, 09:10 PM Whoa! Glad to hear you're OK. From the looks of things it could have been far, far worse. Sounds like you've got some mighty strong motivations for keeping all of your original parts screwed into their original sockets. Stay safe.
fordcowboy 08-01-2008, 08:27 PM I have a 1000 kaw for sale.

I was looking at an 05' Kawi 1K. My buddy has one. I've ridden it and I absolutely love the bike, but he tells me maintenance is a pain. He says it takes a couple of hours just to do the plugs. My Zook takes 20 minutes tops. If I buy new, I am looking at the 08' CBR or waiting to see what Suzuki comes out with for the 09' GSX-R750. I think my days of "spirited" canyon runs are over, there are too many things that can go wrong. I would like to build a track only bike, that would be sweet.
Slott V 08-02-2008, 11:24 AM Man that's ugly to look at. Motorcycle road kill. Luckily it was the bike and not you. Does your insurance cover an accident like that?
20 years is a long time to ride the streets with a good safety record. I'd be counting my blessings.

Actually in the 20 years, I've only been on the streets for 5, the rest is off road riding of various types.
Yes, insurance covers it. It is an at fault accident for me though which will raise my premiums. They are paying for my bike + all the aftermarket equipment + all my gear. It's a pretty good deal for me I would say. I'll take some time off riding per the request of my wife, but then it's a new bike for me:woohoo:
