Win,

Like others have said here a nice scuff ( I use a green or red 3M pads) and your off to the races. No primer needed in my opinion but, I do clear coat my cars in Future or with Testors clear coat through my airbrush when finished to protect the paint finish.

When I strip an AW body the toothbrush scrubs a nice scuff into the body and that is enough for me. Phssssssssssssssssssssh.

Only if i want the primer to be part of the paint job. First primer, Second paint, Third spray paint thinner to take some of the paint off and leave primer showing through. To finish it off I then add a "rust wash" and some thinned down brown paint on the windows to give them that old dirty window look.

I also spray AW stripped bodies and then plunge them in Pine Sol and pull them out and scrub with a toothbrush to let some of the white show through and then put a rust wash on to give that old rusty fixer upper look.

These are the washes I use. Rust, Black, clear yellow, clear blue, clear red, etc....lots of washes! The blue truck doesn't look that glossy in real life (picture only)...just ask Joez.

Believe that the red washed panel was just my brush dipped in brown paint. Then dip that brown paint dipped brush in thinner. Then brush on but, be carfull as not to use to much brown paint. Less to start out with and you can always add more if needed. I also use a seperate bottle of thinner than the one to clean my brushes for this. Thinner is cheap in bulk ( I always have a full can of Testors thinner on hand) so, don't be a cheapskate...har

If you mess it up then just plunge it back in Pine Sol. Nothing lost but, nothing gained if you don't try it. That is if you like the old rusty look...

On a few rare bodies primer first...hard to explain but, if you got some resin body and it won't take paint then yes prime it as flat paint sticks better. Gray for light colors and gray or brown for darker colors. Colors = the color you are going to paint over the primer...finished color.

Any Metalic or Candy color should have a Silver or Gold base coat under it. These bring out the Metalic color and definitely are needed for a Metalic or Candy paint job to look the way it is supposed to look.

Candy paint is very transparent and you need to take great care in spaying a nice silver or gold undercoat in an even and nice looking manner as you will see this in your finished product. Metalics are a little more forgiving if you get a little discoloration (heavy silver or gold in a few spots) and is a good way to practice to get that smooth, thin but, all covered painted body that realy sets of a nice Candy paint job.

A little trick is to paint several of the same bodies (or different if you don't have multiples) ,I use silver mostly as it covers well and dries fast, in one sitting and then spray my Metalic or Candy. If you mess one up...Plop it in the Pine Sol and just move on. :) If you don't mess up change colors and now you have several different colored bodies. :woohoo:

Last but, not least: PRIMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When painting a Black AFX Shadow body yellow.

When spraying a light color over a dark color a light primer (gray) is sprayed first because this will make the Yellow Pop! Even better is to hit that with a light coat of white as a base coat. Yellow, red, orange (light colors) love AWs white stripped plastic bodies as this just makes the colors come alive.

Let's say you want to paint an AFX Black Shadow Metalic. No problem as a light silver base coat will take care of this and now you can have some fun! Phssssssssssssssssssssssh

Bob...hope you weren't looking for a Yes or No answer...zilla lol
