There might be a couple of us coming up from around Fort Wayne. Can we sign up that Fri or Sat race day? I just realized the pre registry deadline is Setp 13.
What tires work up there?

Leonard

Yes you can sign up the day of. As far as tires, it depends on who you ask. Double d's, goose bumps, holeshots seem to be the most popular for trucks, I don't know bout the 4wd buggies.

The track is scheduled to be resurfaced, and I would say a holeshot to a taper pin. Should be tighter harder surface rather then looser. Hope that helps.

Hi Everyone,

In addition to the current sponsorship we have for this ROAR event: Fantom Racing, Team Orion, Pro-Line, Panther, Novak, HPI, and Great Planes. We now also have some local businesses stepping up and donating gifts for this event. These companies would include: NAPA, Weller, Byron Petro (Marathon Gas Stations), J & H Oil, No Time Flat, and Road Equipment. Their donations will include items like tool sets, gas cards, hats, shirts, power tools, etc. All sorts of stuff anyone can use! We thank these local sponsors for their donations and we hope you will support them.

Believe it or not, this still might be only the start of donations for this ROAR event. Keep checking back for further announcements. This is shaping up to be THE EVENT OF THE YEAR for West Michigan R/C. Hope to see you all out for it!

What about rcracingextreme? I dont see a thread on that popular site. It seems to be popular with the local racing crowd. Should put up an announcment or something on that site guys. I have nothing to gain by promoting the site, other than perhaps enlarging the turnout :p

Hey everyone, just a reminder to please send in your pre-race registration as soon as you can. We are already starting to get them coming in, thanks to those of you who have sent them in already. We realize that there are a bunch of races still coming up like MORL and Factory Track, but if you can get your entry form in before the September 13th deadline it will help us greatly to have a count for trophies and other stuff we need to plan for.

A few reminders, there is limited camping space available and also a hotel for $32 per night 1 mile from the track. Pit space inside is on a first come first server basis. If your not one of the first 50 - 60 people there plan on pitting outside and bring a generator for power. If your not a ROAR member you will need to sign up before you can race. Sign ups will be accepted the day of the event. We would like to try to make this a one day event, but if we get to large of an entry count, we will push the event into Sunday morning also. No matter what happens we want to try to have the event completed by noon-ish on Sunday so everyone can make it home at a decent hour. Again if everyone tries to pre-register it will make it easier to decide prior to the event if Sunday will be needed. Rain or shine we will race, if the weather is nice we are on the outdoor track, if its raining we will be indoors. A masters division and 1/8 scale electric 4wd exhibition will be race day decisions depending upon the number of entries and the interest of those in attendance. We have a large amount of sponsorship and donations for this event, so the number of door prizes is going to be amazing! Never won anything before, this might be your big chance.

On behalf of Fatal Impact Racing Club, Battlefront Gaming and R/C, ROAR, Fantom Racing, Team Orion and all of our other sponsors we look forward to seeing you all out to race this September! Good luck everyone.

Never been to a ROAR race, or any other big organization either. Just wondering what the "PT #" field is for on the entry form. Part number?
And do we just right in 2.4Ghz for frequency?
One more, pre-registration for the race is obviously available, but how about for the ROAR membership? Daily or yearly. Can we only get that the day of? Thanks.

Someone can correct me if Im wrong, but I believe PT# is (private transponder #). If you dont have one there are house transponders available. Yes just write in 2.4Ghz for your channel. You can register anytime on the ROAR web site, or you can sign up with us Friday or Saturday at the track. Im not sure how the daily membership works, there is an email on the ROAR web site you can ask them about it. I believe you can only get the daily membership at the race, but I could be wrong.

What is the rule with lipos? Do they have to have a hard case? Will the weight of all cars be chacked, if so what are the weight rules? Are you guys going to work something out with th hobby shops to have parts at the track? I think people would be willing to pay a little extra to have parts at the track so they do not have to go to the hobby shop, also tires might be a good idea. One more thing what about a Slash class?

smitymike11
08-18-2008, 10:42 AM
Also will there be a class for kids? I was thinking you guys could run a class for the kids on the indoor track wile everyone else raced out side, you could just hand count there laps and it would give John a chance to get the rentals out if you just have a run what you brung for the kids.

Too big of a show for that Mike. This is a ROAR sanctioned race with all rules in effect. There can not be any other radios on anywhere on the property (pits included) during a race. We will be running non-stop back to back all day long.

We can do that on club days, just not for a race of this level.

Just wanted to give you all a quick update on preparation for the ROAR event. The entire outdoor track has been resurfaced with 3 - 4 inches of nice new clay. This stuff is premo! not a rock to be found in it anyplace, not even a pebble. Going to be playing with some layouts and new features until we get it dialed in. All I can say is be ready for a very fast track! Traction on this thing should be amazing in the next couple weeks. Got lots of fine tuning to get done still but we are well on our way to being ready for the big race.

New scoring tower is up and operational. It also has two sets of shelves around it for a pre-race staging and after race storage areas. The drivers stand has been raised another 8 inches in the air, so you should have a great view of the entire track. We will soon be adding a roof to the driver stand to finish it off. Trying to help keep the sun off of everyone while your up there driving, we will get it completed soon.

A few other comments for everyone here. Our original idea was to run 5 minute heats and 7 minute mains. ROAR suggests 5 minute heats and mains, but we can get the 7 minute mains if we request them. For simplicity and less confusion does anyone have a problem with just running all 5 minute races? I'm guessing the answer will be, just line us up and say go we will race as long as you let us race for.

Also, if everyone who says they are coming shows up we are going to have a very large group here for this race. Again pit space is limited and on a first come first serve basis. So please be ready to pit outside and bring a generator for power. I believe we have room inside for around 60 racers once its full we will all be outside. And to this point, if you plan on attending please get your registration forms in to us as soon as possible. Right now I anticipate a huge group of people showing up Friday and Saturday wanting to register for the race and ROAR membership. If this happens, it may delay the event start while we deal with all the registrations. So I encourage you to please get those pre-registration forms in before September 13th!

Right now I believe we will have groups from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan attending the event. If you are planning on making the trip up, please post a quick "shout out" and let me know where you are coming from, the track you race at and how many people from there are coming with you so I can get an idea of head count. This will also help us determine if we will need to be racing on Sunday also.

Our sponsors are stepping up in a big way. We anticipate $3,000+ worth of give away products and gift certificates. We will be handing out raffle tickets as you sign in and during the event we will call out numbers for free give aways. We will also have a few prizes that will be raffled off during the day. Fantom Racing will have a booth set up in our parking lot to help anyone who needs it with setups, magnet zapping, and general product information. Sidetrax Hobby is planning on having tires, rims, and various parts on site for sale. If he does not have it at the race, his shop is only 5 minutes away if we need to run and get something. If we run into the evening we have a set of generator powered flood lights available to turn the dark to light, so evening hours are not a problem for racing. We will also have a small set of bleachers out by the track for people to sit in and watch the races. Everkept Waste Management will be providing us 20 or more garbage cans that will be available in the facility so you can help us keep our track looking great.

There are some big names in R/C racing on our list of attendees already. But there is a chance we will be graced by Michigan's own 2008 ROAR National Champion, Dakotah. He is trying to work out the details so he can make it over for the event. Everyone needs to get their game faces on for this race. It is going to be fast and competitive!

Thanks to all our sponsors, ROAR, the Fatal Impact Racing Club, Battle Front Gaming and R/C, and all of the races who will be attending this event. Good luck to you all and we are looking forward to hosting this event.

Just a note to everyone here, the correct address for the track is:

Battle Front Gaming and R/C
2605 Sanford Ave SW
Grandville, MI 49418
Phone: (616) 706-0391

The ROAR web site has the wrong address listed on their calender, please do not use that address for anything but mailing the entry forms in to. The correct address of the track is above.

Just a quick update as the race day draws near. We got 7 inches of rain last weekend in this area. We had the outdoor track covered with our tarp. It helped a great deal, but 7 inches of rain still gets everything wet, no way around it. As of last night the track looked like it was in great shape, but its still sticky and moist. Weather here for this week is low 70's and sunny all week, no rain in the forcast. Lets hope for another week just like this one next week, it would be perfect weather conditions.

We are in the process of expanding our indoor track this week. By the time of the ROAR race we should have a 100' X 40' indoor off-road track. So even if the weather next weekend turns bad, plenty of track to race on indoors. If we end up racing indoors, we will try to fit everyone inside the building to pit. Please make sure to bring a table and chairs for yourself just in case.

Hello Everyone,

We wanted to give you the latest information on the upcoming ROAR Region #5 Off-Road Electric race. As of today the weather report for the next 10 days is the same thing, mid 70’s mostly sunny, and mid 50’s at night with a less than 20% chance of rain on any day. Looks like perfect weather for this coming weekend, but we know how quick that can change. Lets hope for once that they weather report is correct and we get that wonderful weekend. If the weather holds out we will be racing on our outdoor track. This track has been completely resurfaced with a 4-inch think layer of fresh clay/sand mix. New features have been added throughout the track also. On Tuesday September 23 we will be changing the layout of the track so come Friday September 26 it will be a fresh new layout for everyone (no home field advantage). If for some reason the weather turns bad on us, we will be racing on our indoor off-road track. I will be at the track tomorrow adding a 20’ X 40’ new section to the track and also reworking the current track so if we do race indoors we will all be on a new layout there as well. The clay inside and outside is the same, both tracks are a 80/20 clay/sand mix. It’s all hard packed and holds water great. Tire choice should still be: Holeshots, Green Goosebumps, Green Double D’s, and Panther Clay Soft or Super Softs (IFMAR Pins have also been used with some success).

One of our local hobby shops, Sidetrax Hobbies, will have a booth at the track with all sorts of parts, tires, wheels, etc. for sale. So if you forget something, or break something you should be able to get most parts at the track. Fantom Racing will have a booth at the track to help with setups, tips, products, etc. Our sponsors, Fantom Racing, Team Orion, Panther, HPI, Great Planes, Novak, Tower Hobbies and Pro-Line Racing have all stepped up big time and we have a good deal of prizes to give away. Not only that, but many of our local businesses have thrown in a variety of gifts for us to give away also. These items range from $50 gas cards to Dremel Power tools and everything in between. These items will be given away in a few raffles, but most of the items will be door prizes that will be given out throughout the event.

ROAR memberships will be available at the track if you need to sign up. Our regional director, Terry Rott, will be at the event for the weekend. Word on the street is he might throw down with us and race even. If you have not met him make sure you take a minute and say hi and thank him for allowing us to have events like this.

As stated before, pit space inside the building is limited; it will be on a first come first serve basis. There will be one set of tables that will be reserved for drivers from our sponsors. Other than that, plan on having tables, chairs, pop-ups and your own power supply if you don’t get a pit space inside the building.

For those of you coming from other tracks, if you think of it grab a flier for your home track and bring it with you. I would like to hang up all the fliers for other tracks so people can see where you race. Many of the guys at Battle Front like road trips to race at other tracks. Never know, we might all come and visit you some day soon.

Friday September 26 is our practice day at the track. We will open the doors at noon for free practice to anyone who is registered for the ROAR event. Practice will run from noon – 8:00PM. Both the outdoor and indoor tracks will be available to practice on. At 8:00PM we will run our Friday night under the lights races. Anyone who wants to continue to practice must move to the indoor track, all races will be conducted on the outdoor track. Races will run from 8:00PM to midnight (or whenever the races finish). The owner has reduced the fees for racing Friday night. It will be $10 for the first class and $5 for each additional class of racing.

If anyone needs help with anything, or you need something when you get to the track, ask for Revo (Keith) or ask for a member of the Fatal Impact Racing Club. Any of our members will be happy to help you out. We are expecting a large crowd for this event, so please make every effort to show up early so we can complete the registration and computer entry process as quickly as possible. We want to make sure to do our best to start racing promptly at 9:00AM. Thanks everyone, have a safe trip over and a good weekend of racing.
