Hello ,

In reference to the recommended voltage on esc's such as 4-10 cells, 6 or 7 cells, what regulates and mandates the voltage requirement?

I'm sure that if a esc runs more cells than recommended it will most likely damge the esc by over heating.

But what damge will occure if the say 6-7 cell required esc runs a 4 or 5 cell pack? It will have undervoltage but what damge will most likely occure?

Reason for asking is we are considering running 4 cells in a 6-7 cell ESC.

Thanks.

If the esc is a "quality" then you will have no problems or damage, unless you're talking about 4 or 5 cell lipo. Sub c will be fine.

Right , Sub -c and Duratrax Sprint esc like comes with Duratrax Evaders.

The duratrax esc will be ok but will not perform as good as a quality esc. You might get a bit of glitching with the duratrax, but give it a try, you won't hurt anything. The internal resistance of the esc is higher which puts out less amperage to the motor but won't hurt anything.

The problem you will have is that the voltage of the pack will drop during use and this drop could be below the voltage required to operate the ESC. Most common 6-7 cell ESCs require 5 volts min. to operate. The 4-cell ESCs are made to operate at 3 volts.
