View Full Version : Phoenix Raceway Carpet track JAX, FL
davepull 07-25-2008, 09:18 PM Ok guys the owners are interested in putting in a carpet track for us in Jax. but they want to make sure that there is interest before investing that much cash.
Me personally will spend as much time as i can to run carpet. think about it guys how cool would it be to know that no matter what you are going to race. To have a hobby shop that we can get the parts and pieces for or cars.
so come guys show them that we want it
John Maher 07-25-2008, 10:26 PM Would love to run carpet. I hope there is enough support. It would be nice to race and get parts for what we race at the track/shop. No worrys of rain, too hot, or too cold. Let's show our support for this venture.
rcgen 07-25-2008, 11:32 PM I'm thinking about getting one of those trans-am slot cars to race with. They look pretty cool plus you don't have to haul alot of junk.
I will also get a carpet only car too.
NEFLCANE 07-26-2008, 07:31 AM I'm kind of new to the area and yes i would support it. What would be run, oval, road course, touring???? All three!!
GonzoRC 07-26-2008, 09:53 AM Newbie here, but would love to see an indoor track. I know that Planes, trains and cars was going to try it but something happened to it and closed down the store.
katf1sh 07-26-2008, 03:55 PM i'm down for once a month....but with todays economy it is going to be tough.super tough!
merlinjjc 07-27-2008, 05:24 AM i am in for some carpet racing and two more racers will come.
Fl Flash 07-27-2008, 08:03 AM My carpet cars ready :)
I,m sure a well ran carpet track will go well in Jacksonville. No weather concerns, no 95 degree heat, virtually no tire wear, stocked on site Hobby shop, sounds like a winner to me.
02edge2wd 07-28-2008, 07:47 AM has it been said what the track layout will be? Oval, Road, Both??

Agreed on all counts...but what about the other tracks - Monster Mile, Strickland, etc.? How do we arrange a racing schedule so tracks do not direct compete with each other?
davepull 07-28-2008, 10:01 AM you race on road and offroad trucks on the carpet on those weekends
given todays economy I would have to say that i you have a indoor track then if it has 4 wheels race it
so I would expect to see the track more than just a oval
98Ron 07-28-2008, 02:50 PM My traveling partner and I would love to get some more carpet in, once a month might be a bit tough with the $125 round trip for gas but maybe every other month.

Thats the wonderful thing about indoor carpet racing you can race rain or shine, day or night, theres Seven days in a week and four weeks in a month. I wont give up going to Stricklands once a month ( Fun Track to race on ) or Hobbyworld when I can ( still waiting to see what schedule is settled on? ) But a Carpet Track within 10 miles of my house....... you bet your Buttocks I,ll be there!!!
Poppa Ray 07-30-2008, 03:50 PM I don't think there will be any shortage of oval entries ever. That is practically a given although the equipment configurations (batt+motor+body) that everyone is interested in running seems to change monthly. I would like to know how many onroad (ie touring and 1/12) racers are interested and if anyone is thinking this would be a good time to take a look at the new pro-10 class (pancar)?

I still plan on running my Cyclone touring as soon as i can get a chassis for it. I like the pro-10 class idea, I did a quick test with a darkside 200mm road chassis, and with a few weekends to tune, it would have been a great car to run. I would think the oval guys might take an interest because a lot of the wear/tunning parts and concepts are the same as we use in Oval already.
davepull 07-30-2008, 05:31 PM the are actually a few 10th scale pan car on road style now
CRC, Team Associated, Speedmercant, Darkside Motorshorts, BMI, they look like a pretty cool class to replace touring cars
DEI.2 07-31-2008, 08:49 AM I'm in for some carpet action.
98Ron 07-31-2008, 10:55 AM Yea, Dave, I think they call them World GT, 10th scale 200mm and they run Lemans style GT bodies.
Boylan ran them at the last minnreg race
BullFrog 07-31-2008, 11:21 AM Carpet and a time where I can make it to the track- great. All Iv'e got is a pro-10 style car left. So what the word -is it or isn't it going to happen?

No firm decision yet, owners still assessing if enough support out there to make it financially viable. Right now they're working on integrating Buddy's slot track in the back room. When that's done maybe by that time we can have enough committed drivers they will make carpet their next track.
Tell everyone you know, make them post here, hopefully the power of numbers speaks loud!
marcos 08-01-2008, 03:54 PM Hey Dave what size will the track be?? Im sure i can get a few guys from tampa to drive up!!
Poppa Ray 08-01-2008, 04:22 PM Dave, Edge, I'm with you I would run the tires off my xray if there were enough people to compete with. Unfortunately I think that touring has seen the last of it's days and pro-10 is the default category for those of us who like to turn right! And I love some of the new chassis that have been debuted. As a glutton for overkill though I would definitely like to keep the class 6cell or 2c lipo wich (I think) limits some of the chassis.

Looks like some of the off road guys are looking into running some touring...maybe theirs some hope.
davepull 08-01-2008, 07:24 PM Marcos
From what they told me the track would be a tick smaller than Minnreg
Ray I am make the prediction that by this time next year touring cars will be all but gone and 10th pancars will be king.

Dang, I didnt realize they have room for a track that size, That sounds Great
davepull 08-01-2008, 07:50 PM That is what Austin told me but it looks like it will be about 10ft shorter and few feet less wide.
Don't really matter to me It's carpet :)
Fl Flash 08-01-2008, 08:37 PM The thought of a carpet track that close to home gives me a :woohoo:
Doug D 08-02-2008, 11:58 AM I'd definitely invest in an oval car and make the trek from Brunswick, GA, for some carpet racing.
Butts - Sprint cars on carpet would be sweet!

Yah I'm thinking goodbye X-Ray hello CRC GenX10! Actually I may keep the X-Ray just because it's the first touring car I really figured out tuning wise!
Fl Flash 08-09-2008, 11:50 PM Bump Up!!!
davepull 08-10-2008, 12:23 PM Where are the Phoenix guys?? we would love to race rain or shine night or day hot or cold

no dought, he must have just opened the package and put it together.
If we do get a carpet track I will have to get another touring car. Oh If we do can we run lipo/brushless in them?
Poppa Ray 09-02-2008, 04:15 PM BUILD IT!!!!!!!!! It will be the $h1t and the race flies will gather :p
toptimlrd 09-14-2008, 03:42 PM Well, it's been a while since I've been on the scene. My son is away at college and his cars have been collecting dust since CPT shut down a few years ago. A carpet track around the corner just might get me into racing instead of building the cars for him. I still have a Corally F-1 that has seen very little use due to it not gettig ANY grip on asphalt (it was designed for carpet only). We just need to remember that if they build it we not only ned to go to race, but we need to support them on the sales end as well. I'd also like to see the legends cars run here as well.

I guarentee If they put a carpet track in I,ll be racing there and if they put any oval/onroad parts IN STOCK they'll have the Jacksonville market cornered, the other Hobby shops in town have virtually nothing Oval related anymore!
Poppa Ray 09-17-2008, 02:59 PM actually they have virtually nothing race related anymore unless your into offroad!
davepull 09-17-2008, 03:20 PM OMG please build this thing I would so love to have a carpet track. being able to go practice during the week would be so sweet
Bogarfield 09-17-2008, 05:25 PM So what guys? Any news?
Bogarfield 10-31-2008, 08:35 PM Happy Halloween!
02edge2wd 11-03-2008, 04:30 PM Any updates on the track???
RyanJacksFL 11-30-2008, 02:59 PM Carpet track? Woot more carpet.. That means we could race atleast twice a month, rain or shine.. And if Hobbyworld picks back up.. That would be 3 weekends a month I could race guranteed. 2 of them right next to my house.. Awesome.. Can we build this carpet track yet? It seems to me over 30 drivers have already posted they would race.. If the owners of this track would get going.. Charge the same Entry Fee as Hobbyworld and Stricklands.. 15$ entry fee 5$ 2nd class. 30 Entries. thats atleast 350$ a weekend, they would make to race.. Plus if they stocked parts OMG parts stocked, in a hobbystore in Jacksonville.. MONOPOLY!!! Plus if they let once of the big names run a big race there every year. Could probably in a few years get a national race.. 75$ entry fee.. 150 Drivers.. 10k to the owners, minus expenses.. Hey they make around 6000$ a year having 1 big race.. I think that alone would pay for the rest of the years expenses...
