We had a kid's practice on a 2-lane version of Zandvoort this afternoon with all of the kids, myself and John Berry clocking some times and getting practice in. We may drop the 4 lane version because in the previous practice with the 4-lane version there were too many marshalling issues. We ran both 12v and 9v sessions.

Fastest of the kids was, no suprise, 12 year old sensation John Hamilton. Fast time was 3.03 seconds on the inside lane and a blistering 3 seconds flat on the outside running 9 volts. John Berry beat me running 12 volts with a nice lap of 2.71 seconds on the outside, my fastest was an inside lap of 2.77 seconds. Hamilton also practiced with 12 volts, if he beats the kids as is expected he will have to run against the adults on 12 volts. His best clean lap was 2.81 seconds, but the hairpin after the bottom straight proved too much for him on just about every lap. The addition of braking markers in the form of masking tape with numbers leading into that corner did help but the session ended before his time increased.

This series kicks off on August 1st.

Now that is one sweet looking layout for the series! And to have one of the kids putting down some lap times with 12V that is within .10 seconds or less of the adults is pretty awesome! You may have to try and get some video of these kids if they are that good!

Sounds like it was a fun practice! Congrats!

I'm going to borrow Yoshi's pit station and we're just going to run a two-lane layout. It just makes it easier to put the cars back on the right track. We'll run the outer two lanes of the 4-lane layouts and possibly work on getting the track distances longer. 2.71 was a great time although John was hanging it out in the hairpins. The difference is consistancy; John and I were laying down lap after lap without crashing, Hamilton would crash about every other lap and in the same spots; the corners immediately following a long straight. We're working on it though.

All a matter of time - just will take some time for him to learn the braking areas and how to bring the car through that trun without deslotting. Still sounds like he is on the right track and easy to break any bad habbits.

I think his problem is perephial vision, he watches his car but can't track where he is on the track. Especially after a fast portion of the track.

Someone PM'd me with the possibility of trading a regular body (Super G-Plus open wheeler) for one of the World GP painted bodies, I'm OK with that after the series is done. I'll let whoever is interested know when, then it'll be first come-first served.

That would make sense as for why he is having a hard time. I know there was a big difference for racing toy cars (R/C's and slots) AFTER I got my glasses! And all this time I just thought I wasn't cut out for the hobby! HAHAHAHA!!!!

Sounds awesome on the trade - who knows, you may be able to get several done like that and save you some time and effort.
