I have a Kohler K321 that will not run right at high speed. Engine wants to race. Runs at high speed with throttle butterfly only a little bit open. I can see fuel spitting up from the float bowl around the main needle into the carb intstead of coming through the small holes in the needle. I have cleaned it thoroughly, installed new seat, needle and float and set the float level. I have adjusted the governor linkage and even tried moving the governor spring. I am not having any luck. The thottle shaft is worn, but I had another carb from a K301 that ran decent on that engine, but it does the same thing on this engine. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would be wondering about ignition, does that have a points type ignition? I would look myself, but have no way to look up a parts breakdown right now

Yes it has new points set at 0.020". Has good spark and runs fine at idle.

we had one that did the exact same thing after a rebuild, would idle like a dream but would rev up to save its life. turned out the head was leaking around the head bolts, we took the had off, retapped the threads, lock-tighted the bolts, started running great

Never thought of a head leak, but could be sucking air I guess. I will have to look into that. Thanks.
