This is the official announcement of the first oval race at the Coliseum Hobbytown in Frederick, MD. This track is a HIGH bite SMOOTH indoor asphalt track. Smoother than most carpet tracks.

Our first race day is going to be SUNDAY September 7th. Doors open at 9:00 with racing at 12:00.

As with most tracks, if we get enough guys to start a class, we will run it. 4 or more is normal.

I am trying to get a feel for what the most popular classes will be.

13.5
17.5
21.5 lipo
SK
Touring. . (We have a lot of touring cars around here.)
Losi sliders? Micro?

I also am trying to figure out how often people would come. Every other weekend? Once a month? Please let me know your ideas.

LETS GO RACING.
LEFT IS RIGHT AND RIGHT IS WRONG.

I hope so also. We have made one change on the first race day. It has been brought to my attention that the weekend of August 24th is the same day as WillowMill. The following weekend is Labor day weekend. So the first oval race has been moved to the first weekend in September (Sunday the 7th)

I also fixed this date in my first post.
I also want to add there is an on-site hobby shop, but it will not open until 12:00.
Track opens at 9:00 and the shop at 12:00

I looked into that. It looks like that race is that Friday and Saturday only. Sunday is not part of that event. So I may still make it up there.

We are really looking forward to this program, and having you all at the "C". I can't wait to call some oval races, and meet some of the drivers.
See you all soon!

Don't forget to set the lap counter for SUB 5 second laps. I think the lap times were like 4.5 on the fast side.

Counting down for this one. I'll be there ready for 13.5 and either 17.5 BL or that old fashioned stock 4 cell.

We're in the process of our big race The Sedan Challenge after this weekend it'll be time to get things rolling for Sept. 7th.

The date for the first oval race at the "C" is September 7th. Initially it had been scheduled earlier, but Jamie had to change the date to avoid a conflict with a Willow Mill race.

Jamie, a couple of questions; what will be the run line for the new oval and is it flat or banked? Also are you guys going to run foams or caps?

Jamie will be back in Frederick tomorrow night and I am sure he will get back to you. But FYI, The "C" is a wonderful, big, flat track. Jamie, Casey, or one of the guys at the track can give you the expected runline. I think that they are planning to start off on foams. Jamie and the track regulars are hoping for good turnout so, I hope that you and your buddies can make it for the first oval race. I wish that I could be there, but Michigan is just a little too far away for a one day event.

My son lives in the Detroit area, works for AO Smith....small world LOL

If it's a flat asphalt then foams will be the way to go I would think. It will be later in the year before the RC-Oval Nitro Series is over. The Last points race will be in September but I'm pretty sure we will have another race in October. I'm getting old, I can only concentrate on one thing at a time LOL But it looks pretty good that I will get up that way.

Now you just need to get it vented so we can run our Nitro cars LOL I'll bring a BUNCH up there if you can work that out LOL

Jerry, not real sure about the T-Road guys, most of them don't do a lot of traveling. Steve Herndon is racing nirto in the series, Jessie travels some and one or two others, I will let them know about the deal.

McLin nice to see your still around. BTW this is the site for us oval racers now. If you make it on the 7 th you'll be more than happy with the track this place is smoother than ole T road and bigger. How ever I do still miss thunder road it was a great track.

Thanks oldguy!!

Yes the track is smooth and the facility is top notch. Foams are what's going to be preffered. The run lines arer 15' lanes with a 15' center and a 70' center line or 155'-160'. Tennis grade asphalt and very high bite.

PS.- Thanks for the steak in Fla.

I am guessing your referring to speedos and motors. Any MFG motor and speedo will be allowed, just like our sedan program.

Jamie what kind of rules will you be using for your oval program???

We're expecting a 13.5/4 cell and 17.5/4 cell turnout. We will pretty much run whatever you have as long as there are three people in the class. We aren't checking speedos but if a motor looks suspicious we will have an inductance and rotor meter to check it out. We will be following ROAR's maximum rotor strength and inductance readings. NiMH 4600 limit. Lipo's have to be ROAR approved and charged in a fire proof sack or ammo case. This is for everybody's safety. Being as this is my first time calling oval races I'm not sure about weight and body rules but whatever weight you have been running for bigger races such as the Birds or the BRL consider that the rule here as well.

On a separate note I ran a losi late model 1/18 the other night on the oval layout. Soooo much fun! I hope some of you guys bring these cars and get a class together so I can participate in some of the action.
Peace,
Casey

Casey for the rules on oval weight and body issues just check the roar site. I think the weight should be 40 or 42 OZ's race ready and roof height should be 4.25 inches from ground to highest point of the roof. Also be prepared to cal the races fast the last time this was done the lap times got into the mid upper 4 second times. With 13.5 they should be a good bit faster. It also looks like we'll have a19turn brushed motor class as well. I know 4 to 6 guys ...including myself that will be wanting to run the 19 turns.
