Death Race 2000 has a campy feel to it, which makes it enjoyable. I own it on DVD and part of the appeal is that I never feel that the movie takes itself too seriously. I just hope if they re-make this movie that it doesn't try to be too serious or too silly.

Well, if Statham's in it then it prolly won't be too serious (anyone remember Crank?). Hopefully it won't be too silly either...

While on the subject, sorta (and sorry, not trying to hijack the thread) but Crank 2??? What gives with that? Didn't he go splat on the pavement at the end of the first one, freefalling outta a helicopter?

From the trailer, it's far from the original's tone of farce or romp. Looks to take itself fairly seriously. Also...it's from Paul W. S. Anderson. If his movies are your sota thing, enjoy. He's on the same list as Roland Emmerich with me I'll be home reading a book.

Did the original ever get a decent widescreen release?

Yep, I remember going to the drive-in with my folks to see it.

I never saw this film. Is it like Quentin Tarrantino's Death Proof from the Grindhouse dual feature?

That poster looks a Road Warrior ad.

I saw the original on TV a few months ago. It was entertaining.
Cross country televised race where killing pedestrians gave you extra points. David Carradine as Frankenstein, so called because he has been put back together many times. But there is a twist....
