That dream is about to become a reality - check out the EAA website below - they are launching a new jetpack on July 29th at the big air show.

It was a "reality" back then too. The one used on LIS was real, not a prop. I remember seeing it demonstrated at the Edwards AFB airshow (same show that had the XB-70 on display along with the X-15 which was mounted to one of the B-52 motherships. Sigh, those were the days...). BTW, it was ear-splittingly LOUD! Never forgot that.
