Anyone have any ideas of the diameter for new periscopes for the Seaview? The ones that come with it seem too small and short. Brass would look better.

View Full Version : Seaview periscope replacement? Admiral Nelson 07-15-2008, 05:48 PM Anyone have any ideas of the diameter for new periscopes for the Seaview? How about a photo etched rader dish too. Admiral Nelson 07-17-2008, 07:20 PM I guess no one gives a flip. starseeker 07-21-2008, 05:05 PM Admiral: Sorry - I don't lurk here much anymore so I just saw your question, and this attempt at an answer is somewhat tardy. These are from the plan for the full scale superstructure set. There aren't any dimensions marked but the scale is 1/2 inch = 1 foot. Edit: just noticed - those 4 faint horizontal lines across the sail top, they each represent a 3" spacing, or 9" total. And that last antenna is the loop antenna, and while the wells for the periscopes are round, the well for the loop is teardrop, same as the loop. As for a photoetched radar antenna, the antenna is quite thick and photoetch wouldn't replicate it well. Better to make a grid of Evergreen strip and then sand it to the convex and concave shapes. Honest, it's not as hard as it sounds. I'll post photos soon. Also note, the radar antenna dish appears flipped top to bottom in shape on the miniatures. ???. Admiral Nelson 07-21-2008, 09:25 PM Thanks, that helps. The furnished periscopes seem too small. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
