View Full Version : 2008 .12 Nitro Nationals RACE FORMAT Thread/Poll
ScottH 07-09-2008, 06:38 PM Tim had asked in another thread about the race format for this years Nationals.
Last year we ran 4 qualifiers of 5 minutes each, then had a B main of 100 laps and the A Main was 300 Laps.
That is the format we have been working towards and have been looking foward to running again. We set the rules last year for the class and have not changed a thing. I might add that it has worked! Flawlessly too.
I think that we should stick with what worked last year. I think all the teams are getting there pit personell in line for the Mains so everybody will come prepped for a 300 lap main event.
Keep in mind we have TIME to consider and the "multi-main" format may not even be an option seeing as this has not even been discussed with Track Officials.
I think the talk about changing a format should be done for 2009 and in the event of nat having enough personell on hand for the regular GASCAR events.
So if you are running the .12's at the Nats or are considering it, weigh in here.
kevina250 07-09-2008, 08:35 PM I think for a spectacle of the Nats, a long main would be good. Run it on Sat night so not to bother the electric guys on Sunday. As for triple mains, maybe something to try later in the year. Don't know. Might work out.
Larry B 07-09-2008, 08:51 PM Kevin, I think that the plan was to run all Nitro mains Sunday after the electric mains. Something about not messing up the track and nitro racers turn marshling themselves.
I could be wrong.
Sam32 07-09-2008, 11:33 PM I vote for the same as last year because that's what I've been planning on. The multiple A main thing would be ok with me IF it was done like NORRCA and ARCOR used to with a point system. OR if it was a stop, then restart in the same order, same laps completed, and everything, but I'd rather just run one long race. I don't want to split up the racers in the A mains, and I explained why on the RCOval.com forum, so I won't get into that again. Also, I'm not sure I could make 65 laps. But with the info I have now, and with it being less than a month until the race, I think we should stick with what we had planned on and what we did last year.
kevina250 07-10-2008, 08:00 AM As far as qualifying, with the new tank rule now, might want to shorten it up to 4 mins. instead of 5. I still say night time for us. Better racing than during the day. If they want us during the day, then triple A mains. Tires will be a BIG factor during the heat of the day. But my vote is sat. night.
McLin 07-10-2008, 03:08 PM What some electric people may be forgetting is that if we run all the nitro stuff after they race their mains on Sunday then EVERYBODY will be late getting away from the track. Some of us Poe Folks have to go to work on Monday morning and when you're both Poe AND old and still have to drive 6!/2 ours after the race, it makes a big difference. There were days when I got home, took a shower and went to work but they are long gone! LOL
Larry B 07-10-2008, 08:47 PM I realy think the electric racers want the practice time they will not get if we run at night. I would like to run Saturday night, but If Donnie needs a comppromise SP, he could run the lower electric mains Saturday night. This would allow more time on Sunday and we would not be late getting home.
I know this is a thread for .12 racers but, if we have enough racers for a B-main in .09, I hope we can run a 75 lap race. I want to get all I can out of that $80.00 entry fee.LOL Also Donnie and Ruben are looking into a reduced entry fee for a second class. Needs Roar x-com to agree on it. To bad ROAR had to see the low racer count to think about this.
Clinchkid 07-12-2008, 09:18 PM Keep the format the same as last year. like kevin said maybe shorten the quals to 4min. Run them on SAT night. With the turn out at the NAT, there should be enough guy's that will pit cars, I had team red pit mine last year. The race is a month away and we are now having a discussion about this. Leave this alone, lets run the race and if we need to change, then do it for 2009. 2 cents

ScottH 07-12-2008, 09:30 PM I think is was mainly meant to test the waters, not so much for the Nats, but for the regular season. I know the Nationals is in the title, I probably should have not put that in there.
