Curious with the current gas prices and what projected home heating oil prices will be this year.....Do you think racers will still be willing to travel and stay in a hotel for a day or two or do you think tracks should have to host
there trophy races on a single day like they did several years ago to save thier racers hotel costs.......What do you prefer....one or 2 day events.....
do you think iether would help the turnout?.....

...I know out west - 2 day races pretty much DIED several years ago.

We do get a handful of people who still want them - or that won't travel more than a couple 100 miles for a ONE day race - but when a 2 day is attempted...the turnout is too small to PAY for the event.

(I'd love to go back to Las Vegas/ Boulder City's OVAL track...for a 2 day)

It depends how many entries there are and how late you get done.

If you can get done before 5:00 (Sunday), 1 day....if it's much later than that, you have to make it 2 days.....otherwise you will be losing racers because they have to make it home to sleep and get to work in the morning. I prefer 1 day events, but sometimes there are too many racers to do it in a day.

Agreed with above. Id say MOST "trophy" races ive been to recently could have easily been 1 day. I think your turnouts would be better with just 1 day events.. One thing that sucks is traveling to a 2 day trophy race and having like 10 people show up. Then I have the travel plus hotel expense to race a glorified club race.

Id probably go to a lot more of them if they were 1 day deals...

Dont get me wrong I like 2-3 day races, but only when the turnout warrants it..

Every races is not a major event, if it can be done in one day, it makes it less expensive to attend.

Yeah think about how the race promoter feels when he busts his butt trying to organize a "BIG" 2 day race..and only 10 - 15 show up. COSTS him a LOT of many in many cases...

PRE-ENTER , PRE-ENTER , PRE-ENTER it helps everyone...in every way.

well heres an idea.....Unless it a National event I think you can get it done in one day...
Have it on Saturday....This way people can still rest on Sunday....Before you say..some people work Saturday...( I do).....then they wouldnt have been attending the 2-Day event in the 1st place.......I wish more places tried the Sat. thing......I think it would help turnouts....even if you get out real late Sat. Night.....You still have the next day
to rest and re-coupe...

I like the way Heath does it at Maximus, he mixes things up. He's had saturday races, saturday night races, sunday races and 2 day races. He knows which ones can be 1 day and which ones have to be 2 day races.

If you were to make a couple of the big races at Maximus 1 day, it would kill the attendance, in my opinion......they *could* be done in 1 day, BUT you would lose: Practice time in the morning........no time to hang out saturday night after 2 qualifiers..... and people would have a trouble getting home at a decent hour.
Believe me, I'm with you, I would like Saturday (night) races, but I don't think we'd have as many people to race with.

I do almost all of our travelling series races on Saturdays. Myself, I travel approx 120 - 150 miles for EVERY race I put on, and CA traffic on the freeways on SUNDAYS can be really misrable.

I'm usually on the road at 3:30 - 5:00 a.m. heading TO the event - and headed home around 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. with each way being 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours driving.

...some guys if they are going to travel that far, or more...prefer the 2 day events, so they have at least a LITTLE time to relax. My normal race day is roughly 20 hours long...and normally, I can't/don't sleep the night before... (I can't do that on SUNDAYS)

on the flip side, the LOCAL CLUB racing I put on - is 100% on SUNDAYS...which seems to work out for the LOCALS better.

...I have to admit, it's been years but we use to have a lot of 2/3 day races...and they were FUN (As a racer) but as a event host...MAN the extra days are a LOT of extra work...for basically the same money.

HOTEL EXPENSE
TRACK RENTAL

for the racer
INCREASED ENTRY FEE
HOTEL EXPENSE
Away from HOME Food
Day off Work (In many cases)

.....less than 80 entries - ONE DAY, but w/o PRE-ENTRY and a good headcount..HOW do you know what you are going to have until RACE DAY?

I like 2 day racers .you get to hang with racer you havent seen in a while.or you are able to have time to help racer.that is what I like to do .then go out on saturday night with them. I will go on a friday and make it 3 days because this sport is great.

I miss the way K/N used to run their '2 day races'. Two classes one day, two the next. You could run one day and go home or stick around and run another class with the same car the next day. Less equipment needed, twice the fun.
