View Full Version : my review of OAKHILL RC SPEEDWAY in Erie, PA
jgullo53 07-07-2008, 05:16 PM i just wanted to see if there is anyone out there that i can get to read this post. it is mostly aimed for the ppl that are thinking about racing, or are getting interested in offroad. i raced this past weekend at oakhill rc speedway, located in Erie PA, and i have to say that it was the most fun i have had at an RC track. i am by no means an Adam Drake or any other great racer, heck no, but i race to have fun, and to try and be competitive. when i was racing, something happened that i NEVER seen before at a track. NOBODY, i say again, NOBODY once argued at anyone. i was at the track from 9AM til 11pm when racing ended, and there was not a single person there that was upset that someone bumped into them, cut them off or anything. sure, when we get out there, we all want to win, but the main reason we are in the sport is that we all can have fun. and i have to say, fun i had. i myself was having a bad day at first, cause i fried my XBR AND motor. instead of ppl saying that sucks to be you, ppl were there to help me. i even had a guy give me a motor! im not sayin if you came to the track, ppl are just gonna give you stuff, i just wanted to point out how awesome the ppl are. im not out to bash ANY tracks in my area, cause i like to race at a few of them, but im just saying that the atmosphere at oakhill is just about as laid back as you can get. i am so used to apologizing for bumping into someone that it is just second nature to me. i apologized here and my fellow racers just laughed it off and didnt think nothing of it. again, i am not posting this to put down ANY track out there, i have yet to go to a track that sucks, but i have gone to tracks where it is just over competitive and ppl get upset fast. so if you are like me when i first started out in this great hobby, and was timid to go check out a track, i strongly suggest you go to Oakhill. i can bet anything that you will have a great time!!!
check it out!!!

jumpin77 07-07-2008, 05:45 PM +1 you are absolutely correct / the oakhill crew are a top notch group / they are easy to talk to and will bend over backwards to help out / i always have a great time when i go / remember that the 2nd annual oakhill ironman race is coming up at the end of august / 2 man teams / 2 hour main / last team standing wins the cash / last year was a blast / can't wait till this years / maxxgullo / get a team together / you won't be dissapointed.
badassrevo 07-07-2008, 06:01 PM +2, I have had an excellent time everytime I race there. I was made to feel welcome the first time I ever raced there. Two years ago I decided to give electric a shot and packed up the car for a road trip to Oakhill. I arrived before my race buddies and did not have a charger yet. The Oakhill crew took care of me and put my batteries on charge and had me all hooked up and ready to race and have some fun. Hands down one of the best tracks around.

i had planned on it. thing is, im not that good, so i figured it b a waste of 50 bucks on my part, but when ik raced there this weekend, i had so much fun that racing for an hour myself would prolly b worth the 50 just for how much fun i would have. im goin to ask a few ppl and c if they would b willin to come down with me. i will b there again this weekend, and a few more if i can!

Scott54 07-08-2008, 07:07 PM I haven't had a chance to race there yet due to my work schedule but I've heard some great things about the track too.
Losi-Don 07-08-2008, 07:10 PM We have two tracks here in West Michigan(MX131 and Duke's Proscale RC raceplex) that are the same way. Laid back people that are willing to help anyone that needs it, NO bitching, and great owners and crew that run these tracks. Sure makes it fun racing at places like this. These are the tracks that will keep people coming back. Stateline RC on the Indiana border is also another super great facility. Kevin who runs it is an awesome guy. Wish I lived closer to ya so I could give Oakhill a try but I'm just a little too far away ;)

jazjato 03-02-2009, 05:19 PM Time to bump this up to the top.
It's time to dust off the gear and get ready for the up coming season. The boys at Oakhill are planning the up coming season and will be posting more info alittle closer to the spring thaw.
One thing you can count on is a great season of racing and a group of great guys....
bennyboy 03-03-2009, 06:01 PM I agree jazjato. Great bunch of guys and always a great track to run on.
Hey Courtney, Ben says he will be gunning for you in the mod truck class this year.
traxxas_trucks 04-03-2009, 09:12 PM Another Bump, getting closer:tongue::woohoo:
jazjato 04-05-2009, 06:15 PM O.K Guys as promised I was able to get a hold of Zerb, and gather a little more info on the up coming season.
First off although we all feel the weather has broke, the ground out there is still a mess. Don't forget if you drive past the track Zerb lives next to a swap. The reports are the tracks themselves are in good shape and dry. It is the land surrounding them that is preventing getting any equipment onto them to rebuild for the start of the season. The pipes should be up the next week or so, and track design is in progress. Should weather continue like it is we'll be able to get out there, and get our stuff dialed in April, but official opening will be May. I think they would rather say May and start early than say April and start late.
I did also confirm that there will in fact be a raised pit lane Oak Hill will also continue to run it's 3 tracks dirt oval, electric off road, and nitro off road. Track maintenance will be done weekly, to provide the smoothest off road tracks possible
Also the TOP DOG sticker program will carry over from the carpet season to the off road season. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each main receive a sticker. Each of which says Oakhill on them along with the words top dog in three differant colors to represent 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place "I'll see if I can get a picture of them posted". Also the winner of the a-main for each class will receive a coupon good for the following week entitling them to race their first class at half price. That's 6 bucks sweet
The race schedule has been completed, and will be posted shortly. Along with that the guys are looking into going wifi so they can get on the forum more frequently to update everyone with the goings on "weather reports, results, etc.".
Point races will be consit of two 6 weeks series with at least one drop. Winner of each series will receive a pit box sticker stating they won which series. They are considering tracking the points from each series to crown the seasonal champ.
Two trophy races scheduled for the season. The first will be in July and the second one in August.
Track will be closed on three possible dates: 4th of July because it actually falls on a Saturday, the 3rd week of July, and there is a third I'll get back to you on.
Electric buggy and nitro buggy will be their own classes, unless a time occurs where only 3-4 show for a particular class. Then they will race together. On the weeks they are run separate there will be an additional main run. This main invites the top 4 from each class to race a 7 minute main for King Of the Hill bragging rights.
There will be larger heats. So rather than running two heats of four cars they'll run 8 cars in a heat race. This was considered for for several reasons. One more exciting races, two keeps the program moving, and 3rd it will help with marsheling. Nothing like only having 4 drivers to fill 6 marshaling spots for the next race.
I know it's not the will be starting in two weeks response everyone might have been looking for, but I hope it was enough to wet your whistles. As I get more info I will try to get it out there for everyone
badassrevo 04-05-2009, 06:34 PM The King of the Hill Bragging Rights is an awesome idea!!
You just made up my mind on where to race this summer.
Where elese will you get to run two mains? SWEET!
jazjato 04-05-2009, 06:48 PM I'm looking forward to racing at half price all season:thumbsup:
badassrevo 04-05-2009, 07:05 PM You will have to beat me in the King of the Hill to get that 6$ certificate. LOL
traxxas_trucks 04-05-2009, 07:41 PM Word on the forum is that opening day will be May 16:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
