View Full Version : TNT and NASCAR
ScottH 07-05-2008, 09:41 PM I really like the fact they are keeping the race on during the commercials.
Is it just me or are they having more commercials than usual? It seems as the announcers do not go very long without mentioning a sponsor. I know it is business.
Ok now I know there was just a HP commercial and now a Coors Light one. I bet there was not two minutes between them.
swtour 07-05-2008, 09:56 PM I think you see MORE commercials on a channel like TNT, cause thier commercials are not worth as much as a BIG channel...so they have to sell MORE of them.
If you watch on TNT's 'race buddy' online -- it's commentator free and commercial free..or really close to it.
Listen to the MRN radio broadcast - and you get better commentators.

I commented on this in the kyle busch thread, tnt is the absolute worst when it comes to broadcasting a race, I think the combo of bill webber and tnt, NASCAR can do with out both. They just suck. This same thing happened last year when TNT got bad press about having too many comercials. I saw this coming, its better than what they have been doing, last weekend I counted every 9-12laps they went to a 90sec commercial break then it went to 7-8laps a 90sec commercial break, it was an already boring race but it was a race I didnt want to see the damn commercials. Its better this weekend though, it was just a matter of time.
Echeconnee 07-05-2008, 11:25 PM The whole race/fiasco is a commercial! Cot cars suck! Geez I miss the 80's and Winston!
I don't understand why the finish line was moved into the middle of turn 1 and 2. Nascar is its own worst enemy with green, white, crash.
Remember the year Petty and Pearson wrecked at the end and Pearson limped across the FINISH LINE from the infield. Do you think he cared about transponders. FINISH LINE Baby, Race to the FINISH LINE, first one there WINS !!!!
swtour 07-06-2008, 12:01 AM Racing to the transponder line is what you get with NO racing to the yellow...
I still think it's STUPID and SILLY because those transponder lines are NOT marked on the track - so it's NASCAR'S word where the INVISIBLE Finish Line is.
...and what's worse is - it's when the YELLOW is Thrown, which isn't always WHEN the accident occurs.
WOW - did Gordon :) get punted... LOL wtg Edwards~
BA Motorsports 07-06-2008, 12:04 AM The whole race/fiasco is a commercial! Cot cars suck! Geez I miss the 80's and Winston!
You got that right, it sure aint like the good ol' days of the NASCAR WINSTON CUP SERIES. I know todays economy is taking a toll on the attendance at the tracks, but I also think that todays NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES product has caused alot of empty seats also. The TNT TV coverage with Bill Webber talking more about the next commerical instead of the race was a joke.
I still think it's STUPID and SILLY because those transponder lines are NOT marked on the track - so it's NASCAR'S word where the INVISIBLE Finish Line is.
In all honesty....
did you have any problem at all, determining who was ahead the instant
the yellow came out?
I didn't.
Racing back to the yellow is just too dangerous.
The combination of the scoring loops, and video replays is a very accurate
way of scoring in the event of a yellow on the last lap...

People B!tch when they finish under yellow, then they complain when they try to finish under green and race for the win by doing the green, white, checker ......... everyone wants more safety but wants them to race back to the caution ? ............. the transponder lines dont need to be marked ....... it wouldnt matter anyway because its when they yellow light turns on, not when you cross the next transponder loop .......... if your between loops 1 and 2 for example and the yellow comes out, your not racing to loop 2 for the win, it goes back to previous loop for the finishing order, the only time thats overturned is if there is VIDEO like last night that clearly shows the 18 in front of the 99.
The COT would be perfectly fine, get rid of the stupid wing on the back and the cow catcher splittler up front ........... put a 2 inch spoiler on the back and make them run a STOCK looking streetcar looking front end piece, not all stuck down to the ground. Punches big hole in the air and you have to throttle drive the damn thing everywhere ........ they'd be BEGGING to get these cars back ...........lol.
McLin 07-06-2008, 11:30 AM After I fumed for a few minutes over the commercials, I started keeping track of them. True they are in a small screen but to say they don’t bother you is foolish. They make it really hard to concentrate on the race.
Lap 78 – 81 – Commercial
Lap 82 – 83 – Commercial
Lap 86 – 88 ditto
Lap 90 – 91 ditto
Lap 95 – 97 ditto…………………and yada, yada, yada until 50 or so laps to go when they at least held them down enough to see what was going on.
TNT HAS THE WORSE COVERAGE I HAVE EVER SEEN
Fl Flash 07-06-2008, 12:03 PM TNT HAS THE WORSE COVERAGE I HAVE EVER SEEN
I agree, however I thought this was one of the better restrictor track races since NASCAR decided all the cars should be equal.
hankster 07-06-2008, 12:16 PM I agree, however I thought this was one of the better restrictor track races since NASCAR decided all the cars should be equal.
Hey! That sounds like RC oval racing!!!!! :)
Fl Flash 07-06-2008, 12:25 PM LOL, I was wondering who would catch that first ;)
Echeconnee 07-06-2008, 03:14 PM yea, me too. lol
Hey! That sounds like RC oval racing!!!!! :)
LOL! Thats funny.
Whats next COT bodies for R/C cars?? LOL:freak:
swtour 07-06-2008, 10:00 PM In all honesty....
did you have any problem at all, determining who was ahead the instant
the yellow came out? NOPE - not at all
I didn't.
Racing back to the yellow is just too dangerous. AGREED
The combination of the scoring loops, and video replays is a very accurate
way of scoring in the event of a yellow on the last lap...Agreed, the biggest problem I have is that it's OFFICIAL when the Yellow is THROWN and the LIGHT Comes on. But where a racer is compared to a WRECK can cost or give him the win because YELLOW is not automatic when a wreck happens...or a SPIN in Jeff Gordons case
All and all, not a bad Daytona Race though...some very good racing, some exciting moves..and watching on Race Buddy - NO COMMERCIALS or COMMENTATORS
swtour 07-06-2008, 10:02 PM LOL! Thats funny.
Whats next COT bodies for R/C cars?? LOL
A couple of our Oval Touring guys use the McAllister COT body - they actually look GOOD on a TC running around the Oval w/ a nice Retro NASCAR type paint job on them...
Tim Mc 07-06-2008, 10:07 PM What ever happen to actually leading a lap to be the leader? Timing loops should only be used to reset the field. I guess its like those stupid top thirty-five and provisional rules... another Nascar screw up.
swtour 07-06-2008, 10:11 PM yeah, that part is funny...because you DON'T get credit for leading a LAP unless you lead at the Stripe..yet you can WIN the race if you were 2/3rd of the way around the track when the YELLOW comes out..and leading for a split second.
Hmmm, how bout the REVERT back to the LAST COMPLETE lap...hmmmm Nah, that would never work - these tracks are TOO long. Works great on SHORT tracks though...
tracy339 07-08-2008, 09:10 AM The best thing nascrap has done for me is, go to racing on Sat. nites. This way if I'm not racing my R/C car, I'm @ my local dirt track watchin real racing. The pull of a Sun. race on tv is just too much for me to resist, even if I dislike the cars, the racing & the coverage. Strange huh? LOL!
ovalrcr 07-14-2008, 09:56 PM LOL! Thats funny.
Whats next COT bodies for R/C cars?? LOL:freak:
We have been running COT bodies this season at Indy Velo...they look pretty good and are fun to drive...just FYI:thumbsup:
omnis85 07-15-2008, 05:56 PM thank god tnt is done for the year.......
abdule 07-15-2008, 06:30 PM Amen.................................
Curt H 07-15-2008, 06:33 PM Do we realy need a magic show with NASCAR? Did TNT think it was that boring of a race?
omnis85 07-15-2008, 08:14 PM well its on the off week so atleast we can watch something other than truck race. I find TNT THE WORST sports broadcasting channel hands DOWN!! TNT and BILL WEBBER can drive off in the SUN, although we will see him in NY, ughhh
pmsimkins 07-15-2008, 08:24 PM They are by far the best at basketball. Maybe Barkely could do a NASCAR race? That would make for entertainment!
If the show is terrible, just don't watch. If people want change the best way is to be quiet and stop watching.
I'd suggest catching some racing outside of NASCAR. Indy cars are interesting again since the merger. F1 has been very interesting this year. 24 hour of Le Mans was entertaining this year. etc etc. Just try watching something else.
Curt H 07-15-2008, 08:40 PM Pat, I can hear Barkley now. That was a Terrrrrrable !!!!
I agree, mix it up, watch other racing when its on.
Fire Rusty , Get Barkley in there!!!!
Curt H 07-15-2008, 08:42 PM Billy D says drop TNT like a 3foot put!!!
pmsimkins 07-15-2008, 08:46 PM I'm laughing my ass off thinking of him doing NASCAR.
I love Dale Jr. but that restart was "turrible". Race car drivers are not ath-e-leets. Back to you Ernie.
Tim Mc 07-15-2008, 08:49 PM Yeah, you guys make fun of him and he says he's going to run for Governor of Ala in the next ten years...LOL
pmsimkins 07-15-2008, 08:50 PM I'm not making fun of him, he's the man!
If that happened there might actually be a reason to live in Alabama!
How Kyle Petty still a driver, that guy is turrible!
jflack 07-15-2008, 08:54 PM LOL.....A rain delay in Nascar is better than Indy and F1..29 cars finished on the lead lap in the last race, F1 and Indy don't even start that many cars!!!!!...Ya are spoiled, get off your butts an buy a ticket to a race if you want to feel what Nascar is all about!!!!!!!! I suggest Talladega!!!!!!!
jflack 07-15-2008, 08:57 PM Oh Yeah, Pat thats in ALABAMA!!!!!!!
pmsimkins 07-15-2008, 09:00 PM If you want to see what racing is all about go visit Slinger Superspeedway in WI. I could go to weekly small track shows for a year, have 10 times the fun and spend less money than going to Talladega once. No offense but Talladega is easily the least interesting racing in the series. 4 hours sitting in the hot sun to only see 2 minutes of raing that matters. Unless of course you attend races to see big crashes and get drunk on bad beer, then it's probably a blast.
If you want to see someone wheel a race car you should have been watching the last hour at Le Mans when Peugot gambled on running slicks while it was still pouring on half the track. Watch a guy wheel a car with a 50% higher power to weight than a stock car in pouring rain on slicks. Then go watch your typical stock car driver barely keep it out of the wall after running through a little oil dry! :)
Honestly the biggest problem with NASCAR now is that there are only 5-8 real wheels left, at least in competitive equipment.
Tim Mc 07-15-2008, 09:13 PM If the NWS series is racing away from the cup cars and there are few cup regulars in the race, then I'll watch it. Like this past weekend when the NWS is dominated by cup teams I refuse to waste my time. I bet everytime a cup regular wins a NWS race, Nascar loses a thousand fans. The truck series races are half way decent most race weekends as long as M/Waltrip is not announcing. That voice makes me feel like I'm watching the L-Word Alien version!!!
willyplankhead 07-15-2008, 09:55 PM I'm not making fun of him, he's the man!
If that happened there might actually be a reason to live in Alabama!
hey now you gona step on some toes saying that if i recall its most of the out of state people that make a ass of them selves at the cup race here cause i aint gona throw a full 5 dollar beer!!!!!!!!!
Outlaw 44 07-15-2008, 09:55 PM Last saturday I made my first attempt in months at watching a NASCAR race on VT, Larry Mac and his damn magician show defeated my attempt right away. F*** if I want to see a magician I'll go see Copperfield. Larry Mac needs to go

YOU AINT lying, man I really enjoy larry mac's shows but what was that? I mean does tnt take classes on how to screw up coverage of a race? lol WOW!!!
willyplankhead 07-15-2008, 10:01 PM get hotpass and you can tune all those idots out
