everybody keeps talking about how lipo is going to kill our hobby. one of the main reasons people think this is because there will really only going to be two class 21.5 and 17.5 lipo.. but what i dont understand is why we cant have atleast 4 class out of these two combination.

sportsman stock 21.5 lipo with a break out.
pro stock 21.5 lipo with no break out..

busch series 17.5 lipo with a break out.
sprint cup 17.5 lipo with no break out..

i havent been racing that long so maybe this wouldn't work but i dont understand why it wouldn't i do agree we need to figure something out for new comers some sort of stock class... i would like to know what people think about this will it work or do i just have it all wrong....but wether we like it or not lipo is here so we can all just sit around and argue about what right about it and whats wrong with it or we can do the best we can with what we got and try to make the best of it...

The answer to that is simple….you can. What you see most of the discussions about on these threads are more in line with what the national organizations should do. What you do at your local hobby shop/racetrack is entirely up to what draws in racers. What you propose is 4 classes, someone else may see that and say; we don’t race breakout classes why not add 4 cell spec for us. Then someone else may want to add something else because that is what they do at “their” local track. Pretty soon, we would be right back to more classes than we have racers.

For what it’s worth, my opinion is that; if you are ready to go to a National event then you should be ready to race in a class that is offered by that organization and conform to National rules. But, you know what they say about “opinions”.

when you start dividing up the classes and adding more classes you will see numbers decline..........People will disagree but numbers dont lie....You ask any track in the northeast if thier attendance started to dwindle when everyone went from 4 cell stock to all the different brushless classes....
.
Over the last few years I have travelled to almost every carpet oval track in
New England...You could always travel knowing thier would be a good amount of 4 cell stock drivers...wehter it was S/K or pan car....Now with people switching to brushless....you dont know what kind of turn out you will have
when you get there.....I know some guys have said they won't bother travelling to an event if there was only going to be 1 or 2 heats of a particular class......this is what is hurting turnouts...many will disagree with what I am saying but the numbers don't lie..........Guys dont understand you keep changing and creating classes some racers are going to say....Enough already.....I'll stay at my Local track...or play with another hobby....This is my 2 cents!

i wasn't saying that every one needs to switch right away. i was just trying to put it out there that once its fully here we can still have some diversity, and people with diferent drivng ability can still fit in some where

Too bad a few racers just think its a war against lipos verus Nimh .. and its the end of the world of R/C as we know it!:freak:

Most what you post here on the form get turn around. Its too bad.

We race R/C for fun.

Its all going to be OK!

Lipos and nimh will be just fine.

During the HAYDAYS of oval, there were only 2 classes. Kinda makes you wonder

i would like to see mike boyland(snowbirds),mike russell(ovalmasters), and sonny brown(brl)sit down and hash out classes and rules..this way everyone across the board would be on the same classes..if you travel then you will know what classes are offered!

I am not against lipo, BUT! I believe we need 1 more season to allow everyone to get on the brushless band wagon before we start jumping on a new wagon! This is not a cheap hobby..And I know that there are alot of guys out there that still need to purchase brushless systems! These are the racer that buy our old race packs and are VERY happy with them!!!
As for the 09/10 season I'll bet were running lipo's!

I agree with cliff, back in the day there were only two classes, and there was a real good crowd at every track. 21.5 is a good class for begginers, and 17.5 is a real good class for those that have been doing it for a while. I currently run nitro pan only, however if the $$$$'s allow i will be running one of the two classes next year on a limited basis. I say limited only because i will not let anything get in my way of the fuel bottle. Later=Benjie Wright

Steve_B is right a lot of people need to buy a brushles system and as for that just one is not enough i and some friends were out of town racing and a brushles system went up in smoke and you know it he only had one system no backup think about it how many brushed speedos and motors we have at this point LOTS as for lipo i cant wait im tired of the junk batterys we have no choice but to buy. Just my two cents don't get mad.

paulwest if you agree with steve B than you wont be worryingabout lipo until 2010...and i happen to agree with steve.....problem is...in 2010 lipo may be old hat and we may have hydrogen packs or something, lol.

GOOD! Maybe we should all stay "home" this winter and support our local tracks and maybe next season there will still be tracks to travel to. Guys, they are closing alot faster than they are opening. :(

that is the trend it seems and it sucks but the truth, my local track is on the verge of closing down as well and its a roll out track, we have been racing there since I was 10--almost 20yrs ago.

Batteries, Batteries, Batteries, it all depends on what part of the Country your at....Lipo Racing is going to be a headache to get starded in because you have to change Battery tray's, Cars, Chrager's , and what ever else you can think of....Lipo May help or not help this Hobby.

No you don't. The only thing I've changed is the version of software on my GFX. When I ran a slider, it was the same 4 cell tray I'd been running.

No you dont, I,ve been Lipo racing for almost a year now and I,ve bought a Lipo battery $80 a Novak 21.5 $80 and a ICE charger $120.
( next week I am going to send my GFX35 in for the Lipo update I,ve saved up the $60+shipping by not buying any nimh batterys the last 2 months )

The Racers that have a vested interest in keeping nimh batterys are the only ones I see complaining, everyone I,ve met that runs Lipo has a Smile on their face and several have said they would not be racing if it wasnt for Lipo.

I dont see anyone being Forced to run one or the other so why can,t everyone pick their battery and Go Race?

The only thing that will really kill oval racing is the oval racers themselves.

Well what will you do when I upgrade my chevy's to the New C07 engines? You'll need a new capacity Lopo pack to stay on top.

At our club season final we decided on 4cell 17.5 for next season starting in september.
Here is the situation. We rent a hall and set up and tear down our track every race. We have three heats of races, Four cars running brushless and the rest 27 turn. Well after being out of it for three years, while I went back to school to become a professional technologists, I am back and am now going to set up to run brushless. I kept all my gear but sold off cars, batteries, tires and chargers. I will have no problem buying two new 10L5"s( either AE makes them or I will) chargers, batteries, and brushless motors and speed controls. I wanted to go straight to Lipo`s, but it is unfair for me to ask the other members to pony up the extra money. In order to survive and grow our family of racers we have to think of the good of the many over the good of the few. I fully expect to run Lipo`s when I go south, and hope to go farther south than Maine. I have friends from Maine to New Jersey that I have missed so much in the past three years. Well I am back and getting ready to have some fun.
Is that not why we started to race in the first place!

I have ran lipo twice now and love it so far. I have all but retired from pan car racing since I have to go so far to find a track. I have been using them with a dirt car in a class that allows 13.5 motors with either standard 6-cell batteries or lipos.

For me I feel lipo will be cheaper in the long run. Since I am only racing about once a month I do not have to worry about trying to keep stardard batteries in good condition by cycling them. I basically put the lipos away and forget about them until a few days before I go racing. So far no ill effects from doing this.

My stardard packs loose performance just sitting on the bench and they are very good quality cells.

I really did not want to switch in the beginning but so far it is a good fit for me since I do get to race too much any more.

As said earlier Lipos will not kill RC racing. Racers, tracks closing, and fuel prices will be blamed for that.
