What can I do to beef up my evader for a brushless motor? I keep melting my diff!

nothing ...... you cannot make an Evader strong enough for brushless. The tranny and diff are not tough enough to handle brushless power. Sell it for whatever you can get out of it and buy an Associated T4. You'll be money ahead in the long run.

Depends on how much brushless you are trying to throw at it. I have run one with a 13.5 in it and had no problems. Much more than than and you are asking for trouble.

I have run 1 with a 8.5 with no problems, BUT I added a alloy idler gear, carbide diff balls, carbide thrust balls , build the diff using associated diff lube and black grease on the thrust bearing. The main thing is to utilize the slipper. the slipper is pretty good on the evader. the only thing I added to it were a bearing for the gear to ride on instead of the bushing, and a thrust bearing to make sure the slipper nut doesnt get moved under the torque of the slipper. Also the thrust bearing makes the slipper work MUCH smoother. This combo made the tranny bullet proof. 1 more thing I used a hole punch to make a thrust bearing cover out of lexan to fit snug in the out drive to keep dirt out of the thrust bearing. I ran this set up in an evader ST converted to a J82 for about 2 months with no problems , with li-po power.the alloy Idler gear made the tranny a little noisy so I quieted it down by lubing the tranny gears with MIP red grease.

Thanks for the help; in addition to all of the suggestions, I’ll try to control my finger.

Any other tips for the Evader?

search www.rctech.net for the evader thread or maybe on here. The is a detailed mod on how to install a diif from an associated B2 that cured all the reliability problems.

I have a evader ST with a Traxxas Velineon system in it. The real weak link is the diff gear. Cheap plastic. use a B2 diff gear.

The plastic on the B2 is much better. I have yet to melt one. Also use carbide diff balls.

Yeah if you are running on some tracks with hard landing jumps, get the alum. hinge pin brace. Those seem to break real easy.
