can anyone name prequels that were WORTH waiting for?

The Lonesome Dove prequels weren't bad. Not as good as Lonesome Dove though. Batman Begins could arguably be considered a prequel. And the prequel half of The Godfather Pt. II kicks serious ass.

Except for the last two minutes, which made no sense to me (and others that I've asked), Macross Zero was awesome.

And the prequel half of The Godfather Pt. II kicks serious ass.I agree. I always enjoyed those segments far more than the main story.

Butch and Sundance - the Early Years? :p

Seriously, Godfather 2 is amazing. Nothing else is coming to mind right now.

Dammit, ya beat me.

I really can't think of any that came off as worth while.
Wiki has some lists:

What, you guys didn't like Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure or Ewoks: The Battle for Endor?!? I mean, c'mon! That was cinematic bliss!!!

:p

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one of my favorite Prequels from the Wikipedia list. I think it's very worthwhile. ;)

I enjoyed the Star Wars prequels and felt they were worth the wait. I know many of you disagree -- and there's no need to beat that particular horse yet again, though I predict some won't be able to resist -- but I liked them. They weren't necessarily better than the originals, but still, I'm glad they were made.

So there!

I am looking forward to Caprica, though I wonder what it could offer that tops wiping out an entire 12-world civilization.

I also thought Young Sherlock Holmes was charming, though no one will ever argue it's a patch on the actual stories. And no one was actually waiting for it.

There's a school of thought that THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY shows how Eastwood's character became the person we saw in A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS and FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE. He even acquires his iconic poncho at the end of the movie.

This all depends on the assumption that Eastwood is playing the same character in all three movies. I'm not convinced he is, especially since Lee Van Cleef is clearly playing two different characters in FFDM and GBU.

I think it would be a stretch for any of the spaghetti westerns to be be strung into a narrative of any sort.

Don't suppose we can count Batman Begins as a prequel? More of a re-boot but it certainly revived the franchise after Schmucher's ill-conceived un-dynamic duo of films. IMHO of course :)

No, it's not a prequel to Burton's Batman so it's a reboot. But your opinion of Schumacker's Batfolly is right on target.
