I haven't checked up on the Fresh Cherries scene in awhile..so I came on here last weekend and saw the Aries, Reliant, Omni, and Horizon are finally out. So I went to all my area Wal-Marts (Livonia, Canton, Dearborn) as well as a Toys R Us in Westland. The most I came up with in terms of ANY Fresh Cherries was a 1:24 Gremlin in Livonia and and a 1:64 Maverick in Westland. I have not gone to my Taylor Wal-Mart...but I did pick up a lot of 44 1:64 Fresh Cherries on eBay for a total of $33.50 with shipping. It had the aries in it that I wanted...and I think it was a pretty good deal, since ordering them invidually on eBay would be way more.

Anyway does anyone know when Wal-Marts are going to get more? My stores don't even have pegs. And I'm still looking for Horizons and Omnis.

Also when is the Omni in 1:24 coming out and the Granada? Any idea?

Thanks!

I still haven't seen the aeries or the wagon, or the civic.. but most of the rest I have seen at my local wally world. They still have a couple pegs full, at $.50 each.

Ditto! Other than a 1/24 T&C wagon that's new, my local WMs have quit carrying 1/60 scale cherries.:(

My locations have plenty of 1/60's (Mustangs, Chevettes, Matadors, Vegas, Hornets, and Fieros), but at $2.92 they aren't moving very fast. The latest stuff I found was the newer 1/87s that come in red boxes ('40 and '56 Ford trucks, Granadas, Accords and Civics)

I just went to Wal Mart last night and they had the Series III releases. A Silver Dodge Omni GLH turbo, a burgandy 85 Plymouth Horizon, a Dodge Diplomat and the Chrysler Town and county wagon. I bought both the GLH Turbo and the Town and Country wagon. For $12.92 each, you cant lose! Everyone at my work loves the 2 diecasts, my friend even drove an hour each way to go pick up the same diecasts.

Just wanted to say my local stores STILL have 1/64 at $.50 each. The 1/87 is now $2 on clearance. STILL haven't seen any Civics, Kcars, Aries Wagon, or a couple other newer castings in either series.

The prototypes that I have of the 1/24th scale GLH Turbo are in red and silver, so I would assume that those are the production colours as well. I'm going to do some calling around today to see if I can source these out.

Thanks a bunch for the pictures, I'm going to go and make a few calls tomorrow. :woohoo:

Thanks for the additional pics moparnut. Looks like you work in a Mopar parts dept. (I recognize the Mopar blow off valve plate adaptor for the 2.4L Turbos). I went out to my Wally's tonight but they didn't have anything new in the Motormax dept. They were starting to do a reset of all the toys so perhaps in the next day or two that GLH Turbo will show up.

Dear Moparnut:

I have a Plymouth Neon as well in 1/24 scale, but that one is a Promo issue, similar to the green one at your photo.

Thanks for the photos; nice items and now I am aware of the Diecast Neon.

Sorry, I shouldve been more clear, those are a promo set that were offered in 1995/1996, before the factory burnt down. Im going to try and come across a few other colours like the Magenta coupe, and the 1996 Neon ACR coupe.
I do work at a Dodge Dealership in the parts dept. I keep buying more toys and just taking them to work since Im there most of my day.

My diecast dealer is going to his supplier tomorrow to look for the GLH Turbo's for me. I told him to grab all that they have (if they have any at all) so I can use the extras for customs. I can let you know if he gets any extras if you are interested.

Thanks, I would probably be looking for at best two so I could customize one too...or one if that's what's available.

I love the model, but is it just me or does it seem a little bigger than 1:24? Like 1:22 or something. Seems big compared to the Neon... Omni always seemed like really small cars to me. I dunno how big those wheels actually are on GLHs, but it looks big.

Everyone at my work loves the 2 diecasts, my friend even drove an hour each way to go pick up the same diecasts.

Wait wait wait...was the Horizon a 1:24? Because the 1:60 Horizons were 81s.... And was the Diplomat a 1:24?

If this is out I'm going to flip. What did it look like? Holy crap!

Seriously if the Horizons are still in the store, I would pay good money if you could buy it and send it to me.

And PS GLH_Turbo could you ask your diecast dealer if he can get Horizons in 1:24? I'm also going to my Wal-Marts tomorrow.

Yes The neons are promos and they are done fairly nice, I will take some detailed pictures of them in a bit and post them. The original set that I had was sould for $24.95 for each Neon, and then $24.95 for the stand. The set of three was limited to around 5,000 sets. There were other promos done for 1996 cars, including a coupe body with the Bulge hood, rear spolier, etc. If you watch ebay, they pop up every once and a while.

The GLH Turbo is big compared to the neon. The ride height on the GLH turbo is really tall, it has really tall tires and the suspension makes it sit up higher. The OEM rims were 15'' Pizza wheels, I took the tires from my yellow SRT-4 diecast and put those on the Pizza wheels and it looked better, but still sat too high.

Finally, the Horizon diecast was 1:24 and was burgandy, the Dippy was a 1:24th as well and was a ice blue metallic. I can go to my Local Wal Mart and see what they have left for diecasts if you like, which ones are you interested in??

I'd be interested in once of each of the Horizon, Omni, and Diplomat if you could, the Horizon being the most important. I'd be happy to pay you for whatever you pay for shipping and for the cars, and a little extra for the trouble of driving out there, etc as well. I've been waiting for these for soooooo long.

I really appreciate it. I went to my Wal-Marts today and they have NOTHING Fresh Cherries.

My diecast dealer didn't call me today so I'm not too hopeful for this weekend. I'm going to pay him a quick visit tomorrow morning and then hit the Wallys close by to see what they have.

As for the size of the GLH Turbo, you are correct in that it isn't a true 1/24th scale car. By my quick measurements, the scale is 1:21.5 by the length and 1:21 by the width and a whopping 1:18.5 by using the rim diameter! So, yeah, the model is quite a bit oversized for the claimed 1:24 but I love it nonetheless. ;)

Pm'd you back.

It would be tough to paint over that exterior color of the GLH...you'd lose the badging that they put on it (which I think is a nice detail that a lot of companies leave off).

Does the Horizon have any stickers or detailing inside? I really do want to paint it red inside, since red Horizons always had red interiors, but those stickers would be a pain to get off and back on right.

My mom had an 82 Omni O24 Charger 2.2. Not the Shelby, but pretty cool.

If cars today were as cool as the 80s, maybe they the big 3 (especially Chrysler with their grandpa cars) wouldn't be in the place they are now

I couldn't agree more. What happened to 2300-2800lb cars that had turbo's on them? Everything is bloated and so filled up with options it really takes away from the driving experience. I loved how GLH would try to rip the steering wheel out of your hands if you were driving it hard but would just eat corners alive if you were pushing it. My 1998 Neon R/T still has a sporty feel to it, and is nice and light. Its a shame Daimler really screwed Chrysler up so bad.

cardwellave

No one is putting anything interesting out anymore. The styling of cars is too sort of "puffed up" or bloated looking, nothing looks particularly styled, headlights are strange, tailights are white, interiors come in two or three colors (grey, tan, or charcoal), cars are quiet, provide a numb driving experience, have huge integrated keyfobs, engines have plastic covers over them, and are impossible for a shadetree mechanic to work on. As a young person, I fear for what I'll be driving in a few years.

I have a 99 Ford Escort, and it's a good car. Styling then was still decent (round, but not bloated), it's reliable. I have a boring grey interior, but they did make them with green and blue as well. It's cheaper now I guess to use two or three colors they can use on EVERY car (red could only be in white, red, or silver, blue could only be in white, blue, or silver)....

GLH did you get my PM?

I got your PM cardwellave, but I had to head out to a friends BBQ this evening and just got back. I'll package them up tomorrow and get the shipping quote.

As for the tampos on the GLH Turbo, I'm not worried about those at all. One of my specialties is making decals and reproducing logos/fonts/designs in vector format. The GLH Turbo should be a piece of cake.

The interior of the Horizon is just molded black plastic, it should be very easy to paint. I would go with a Vinyl dye paint if I had my choice (hard to find around these parts) and my second choice would be the Krylon plastic paint.

Love those GLH Turbo's moparnut. I also had an '84 GLH (non-turbo) before getting my '85 Turbo car. The '84 rusted out pretty badly so off to the scrap yard it went. I miss that car, learned how to drive stick on that car. :(

I was thinking of grabbing one of those MPC models of the Shelby Charger for parts. It should have the correct Turbo 1 motor and perhaps the wheels are better scaled to the car. Did they change the motor in the retail GLH Turbo back to a Turbo 1? Or is it still a Turbo 2 car like in the prototype?

There are plenty of fun turbo cars out there now but I agree that they are on the heavy side. I weight my GLH Turbo using the track scale at the drag strip and the total weight was 2345lbs with me sitting it in and a 1/4 tank of gas. The curb weight on my PT Turbo is around 3300lbs!!! Yeah, the new cars have a much nicer ride, smoother engine and much safer but most lack any true driving character (I'm looking at your lineup Toyota). If you weren't careful with the GLH Turbo, it would bite you back.

Here is another picture of the engine that now sits in my GLH Turbo.
