Ok I plan to start racing 21.5/lipo in the fall season. I have viewed all the available threads and must say that I am really confused! I am running local club races and an occasional big race however the level of competition at my track is very high with several national champions racing. I don't want to get back into the high maintenance that was required on Nimn, but looking at some of the post, I see where people are using a GFX to dischare at 35 amps.
Is that really necessary?
Could someone give me a common sense approach to the "care and feeding" of the 3200 orion pack
Thanks

Don't dischare it, it will ruin lipo batteries if they get discharged to less thatn 3v per cell. Charge at 3.2 amps, balance about once a month. Get a lipo voltage coutoff, make sure your charger will charge lipos or damage will occour. almost zero maintenance and steady run through the whole race. I would suggest 2 batteries so you can keep one full charge and ready to go. And you can run 1 pack all day if you have time to charge.

Thanks for the input. I have a Checkpoint TC-1030 which is lipo ready. Both my esc have lipo cutoff. I do plan to buy another battery for a backup. I have been around RC long enough to know you can't have only one of an item lol

I agree with Pup1970. I ran my first Lipo last fall and it was an Orion 3200. Charged with Ice and checked balance weekly. Battery was never off enough to need a balancing (less than .001 between cells). Ran the entire fall series (every Saturday night) with only one 3200. Never had less than half the charge left after 5 minute heats on flat carpet oval. I was running NASTRUCK (touring car) on rubber tires. 19turn mods or 10.5 and 13.5 brushless. NIMH or Lipos. This year the 10.5 have been dropped for class.
