My mostly reliable Craftsman tractor is starting to give me fits. Here's the problem,
It starts out working fine, then after about 15 minutes it sputters and dies. It will usually will start up again, with the choke, and only run at idle for a few minutes. Then you can bring throttle back up and continue cutting. The hotter the tractor, the more frequent it happens.

I've changed the fuel line (was splitting and leaking), checked and cleaned spark plug on top of normal spring tune up of air filter, fuel filter and oil change.

Briggs model number is 310707 & tractor model is 917.271634. Any help will b appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

Sounds like the carb needs a good cleaning. Also Check your fuel sylinoid at the bottom of the carb bowl. Should have 2 wires going to it. Wait till the engine gets hot and starts acting up. then place your hand on it with the key off turn the key to the on position and you should feel it "click".

Another thing to check is the fuel cap. It may not be venting good, when the engine acts up, try loosening the cap and see if it clears up. If it does, then check the vent in the cap to make sure it's allowing air to enter the fuel tank.

Thanks for the tips guys, as soon as life quits interrupting, I'll get to checking this. No rain here for almost 2 weeks, so nothing is growing, at least I got lucky there. :freak: Will update after I try these few things.
