View Full Version : Get Smart- the Movie mini review F91 06-21-2008, 01:13 AM So, the movie is playing in the "VIP" lounge at the local theater. What does "VIP" mean? It means you can drink beer or wine while watching a movie! Man, that was one funny a## movie!!!:woohoo: Eric K 06-21-2008, 07:33 AM Is that the beer or wine talking? Or was it really funny? F91 06-21-2008, 09:40 AM I'm not sure. Oh, BTW, Beer ( wine gives me a headache and is too foo foo). Seriously though, there are some really funny sequences, Carrel is hilarious, Anne Hathaway is SMOKING HOT, the Rock is very good and Arkin is great too. Lots of lines from the series, several nods here and there. The theme song is figured prominently. I really enjoyed this movie! And the beer. Eric K 06-21-2008, 10:14 AM That's good to hear. Thanks :) The Batman 06-21-2008, 10:30 AM I read a review in a local paper yesterday which contrasted GET SMART with Mike Myers' THE LOVE GURU. The review said that GET SMART, while not a carbon copy of the 1960's tv series, was quite funny. THE LOVE GURU, on the other hand, was a big waste of time. "Director Peter Segal and writers Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember have a tough time re-creating the satirical wit of the original series. They rely too much on action-comedy staples - single-entendres and things blowing up.." Having not seen the movie myself, I'm of the impression that fans of the tv series will probably enjoy it - BUT - shouln't go in expecting to hear all of our favorite catch phrases, or an over-the-top impression of William Powell like Don Adams used to do. - GJS F91 06-21-2008, 10:37 AM Carrel portrays Smart a lot differently. The catch phrases are there, but this Agent 86 is quite competent. Too bad about the Love Guru. I read some positive reviews and still may go see it. Dave Hussey 06-21-2008, 11:18 AM The Wife and I saw it last night too and we both thought it was a real good laugh! We were facing mall crowds, line ups at the concession area - and loving it!! :) No beer at the local cineplex though! Enjoyed one particualr cameo towards the end! Huzz F91 06-21-2008, 03:21 PM Huzz- I caught that too! It was great! BTW, Wish you guys could stop by out here, we'd have a blast at the Bee...er...Movie house....:) Steve244 06-21-2008, 09:22 PM Saw it, started off slow but got a few chuckles after a while. Enjoyed the ballroom dancing scene. Noticed Bernie Kopel in the Opel. Who else was in there? Was the conductor somebody from the original show? vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
