What brand of spur seems to hold up better to the rigors of high powered brushless oval racing? LMK thanks

Durability and Diff Build wise, I prefer the KIMBROUGH spurs. However, PRS is the only one I know building the really SMALL spurs for bigger track racing.

There is another company that makes a really thin and light weight gears called RW.
These are the only ones I use anymore for both oval, 12th and even sedan racing. I know they make small ones as well. I just put a 78 tooth on my 12th scale the other day.
I love Kimbroughs, but there is nothing that small yet.

RW's I believe are distributed by Schumaker and are also expensive compared to the Kimbroughs ($8.99 I believe)

I'm glad to hear they do make small spurs - our LHS has two or three of the RW's, but both are larger gears.

I believe ROBINSON does or did go down to 64pitch 78 tooth as well.

Hard to find now-a-days but you are right. The 66 and 78 were white believe there was a 72 also. They had a special name for the white gears but I can't remember. I believe ROBINSON does or did go down to 64pitch 78 tooth as well.

My biggest problem with PRS is that they don't stamp the count on all of their gears. I have 2 or 3 in my box right now that I "think" are 104 or 106. I use Kimbrough for anything over 100 now. PRS only because they make 88-96 which I need as well.

The PRS gears have the size in the area where the diff ring sits. Which is OK when pulling them out of a bag, but sucks when you are trying to see which spur you have on your CAR.

Our LHS only has the PRS down that small which is why I even have PRS at all. I try to buy Kimborough mainly because I like the way it grabs the diff balls where the PRS can fall out as you try to assemble your diff if you use thin diff lube.

I'll have to jump on lefthander and see about getting some Kimbroughs that small. Thanks!

you do understand that alot of guys buy a 1/8th reamer to open up those holes in other spur gears to allow for a smooth operating diff right?

the prs spur comes out of the package with those holes opened up correctly..

They are all machine cut gears and mesh very good.

I take an exacto knife and scratch in the number outside of the diff ring area. It is hard for them to stamp the number outside the ring area.

All current PRS spurs have the tooth stamped on them. You might have a few of the older Standard or Prolite Oval series.

I only use PRS "P"erfectly "R"ound "S"purs".:thumbsup: I have made the switch for all of my pinions too. It was really important for mod sprint car . The perfect gear mesh with that much power and 6 cells you didn't have much room for error.
