We started a new class today. "Box Stock Traxxas Slash". Outrageous amounts of fun.

Basic Rules:
Only Traxxas Slash original factory replacement parts*
Factory "shotgun" shrink wrapped 7.2v 6-cell NiHm battery under 4600mAh
Stock tires/wheels
Stock shocks
Stock ESC
Stock servo

You can change:
Receiver
battery connectors
spur/pinion gears
shock oil
shock preload - only use box provided/replacement preload
you can paint your own body - Slash factory body only

* or Rustler equivalent

Out of the box these things are fun. We had 6 of us show up, and the LHS didn't even get stock in until wednesday.

The track needs a little work getting in shape for the season. Weed killer was sprayed, so those weeds will be gone soon. A few guys (THANKS GUYS) groomed the jumps and bumps over the last few days.

Come and join us. We haven't set a set racing time. So far races will be starting at 1pm on saturday. We might add or move times around. Updates will be posted here, but I recommend calling Indy Slots at 317-787-7568

Personally, I like the looks of it with the weeds growing on the track.

I've been lobbying to get interest in a similar class at my local track. I had the slash out today, and alot seemed interested in getting one. What would you think to opening up your rules to Lipo's? Just curious...we have a kind of box stock class now, for Rustler Oval...they have the battery limits to a 3000 mah pack. I don't know how much of an advantage the slash offroad will have?

aeRayls
06-15-2008, 09:58 PM
In offroad a "battery advantage" is next to nonexistent. As long as its a 6 cell nimh or a 2 cell lipo itll be really close. The biggest thing is to keep the trucks STOCK, motor, speedo, servo, tires, and parts. Use your own radio/receiver, stock body just painted different.

I'd really like to see you guys get that track together and do a layout update. There are plenty of electric racers needing somewhere to race.

Any chance for Sunday racing, noon/1pm?

I agree with there not being much of an advantage with lipos offroad. Just to try it out, I put in a brushless system in the slash. A losi 6400 Xcelerion, keeping everything else the same. It was miserable to drive . Way too much power for the stock tires to handle. The truck is so much more fun driving it completly stock...In my opinion that is :)

I hope we see these box stock slash classes taking off!!

I would be interested in running this class if you would be willing to allow LIPO's. I have gone completely lipo- I don't even use NIMH's in the radio- it's a lipo as well! I was there Saturday and raced T4 class.

We are hoping to make this a part of our race program at Battle Front Gaming and R/C in Grandville, MI. We are supposed to get our hands on one today. Great pictures!!!

Hoping this class takes off at alot of tracks.

Joe's RC World has posted that they will not be running this year. He is willing to lease the facility to anyone who wants to run races; but he is no longer running anything at any time.

If we don't support our local tracks, this is what happens. We have lost Planet and Joes. Glad to see the new track at Linton but it is much farther for me than FT Wayne.

They're working on the track to get it in shape. Why a layout change? I think it's nearly perfect now, as it looks like a scale CORR track.

RUMOR: This fall the track will leveled, a large new building built around the track, and a new off road track along with a dirt oval rebuilt. The owner really wants to expand and this will allow nitro racing inside as well.

Regarding Sunday racing: It is possible. Your best chance is to show up next Saturday and let them know that Sundays are your best days for racing.

Has the layout been changed in the last year? I just saw the pics and wondered. I was thinking more about getting the regular electric offroad racers interested. IF you get the word out everywhere now and get people coming in maybe the owner will be even more inclinded to build the building. I'm sure quite a few racers would show up for 2wd, truck and 4whl if the word was out more places that Slots was holding races and times and what not.

It seems to me if the owner wanted to inclose it, he'd be interested in promoting the electric racing now and getting people talking about the track.

What would it take to rebuild the track? People obviously, but is the owner interested in promoting racing?

I really liked the track when Skillman ran it and I really like the improvements Slots made. We just need to get some RACERS interseted in coming and talking about it.

Yes I race there quite a bit but I do not know any electric racers only nitro,so that being said if you have a group of electric guys who want some where to race please start the classes you want have, with the rules you want to have .

NOW is the time to do it. Doug (owner) is providing a place to race since he is the only one there working most of the time he does not have the time to make classes or what need to be the rules.

That is up to the racers to decide and stick too.Its kinda like a sports park you make you teams (softball, soccer, etc) play the games they provide the park.

I help start the slash class at slots set the rules and help do a little prep to the track. I dont thinks it is a big deal for the fun of racing somewhere close.

Doug is open for any racer (electric only for now) to make a class for them you just need to show up:)

That's exactly what Indy Slots is like. If YOU want to race, YOU can make the rules.

The best way is to simply get a set of guys to agree on any evening, or weekend afternoon, and race. That's what we did with the Slash class last Saturday. That's how VTA got started. That's how Mini Coopers and Oval Drifting started. There's even guys getting ready to get 1/10 Touring Cars classes going. Tell Doug what you are doing and he will provide the race.

I'd like to see a 19-turn 7.2v NiMh (or 7.4v LiPo) RWD Stadium Truck class. Or a 13.5 or 10.5 BL 7.2v NiMh (or 7.4v LiPo) RWD Stadium Truck class. Anyone interested? I can race just about any day*. Say... Wednesday evenings at 7pm?

I'm also open to racing the Slash box-stock class on Wednesday nights as well as Saturday afternoons.

*starting July 9th

I think the smart thing to do is go with what we had at Planet- Stock was 13.5 or 27T, and LiPo or 6 cell. They ran well together. Anything more motor wise would be mod. No reason for an intermediate 19T class, as it will just dilute classes. We had a ton of stock truck and buggy, just need to get the word out now.

I'll set the classes and rules, here go's:

Super stock truck
2wd stadium truck, T4, XXXT, Evader etc...
Any 6 cell nimh/2 cell lipo
13.5 brushless/19 turn brushed

Super stock buggy
2wd buggy B4, XXX, RB5 etc...
Any 6 cell nimh/ 2 cell lipo

Modified 4wd Buggy
4wd Buggy B44, XXX4, ZX5 etc...

I included the 19t in the super stock because a 13.5 is just plain faster than a 27t brushed. You can still run the 27t and some will do fine and may win with it.

I'll run the super stock truck class as well as the box-stock Slash class when I get back into Indiana after July 9th.

What other days do you guy want to run?

I am relatively new to racing, so I have a simple question: When rules state "13.5 or 19-turn", do you mean I can use any motor slower or with less turns? I mean specifically brushless motors.

I am a perfect case of "slower=faster" and a 17.5 might serve me better. Or I guess I could gear a 13.5 slower, but wouldn't that give me too much torque in the turns? Which would be better?

... as it will just dilute classes.

Agreed, we do not want that! Let's stick to the very basics.

Super-Stock truck
Super-Stock buggy
Mod truck
Mod buggy

Oh, and box-stock Slash

Should a dedicated stock class be added for beginners?

We had a ton of stock truck and buggy, just need to get the word out now.

Let's do it. Let's hit some of the other forums.

Novice class is for the beginners. Usually anything goes. Its all about fun and learning to drive in novice. 13.5 and 19t aare the limit, you of course can run under it motor-wise.

If you already have the 17.5 I'd run it until you get used to it.

If he doesnt open til 11 or 12, racing at 1 doesnt give enough time to practice. If he opens at 12 and your there waiting you would barely have enough timeto charge a practice pack, sign up, run the pack and be ready for the first heat, with another pack. 2 p.m. should be ok, if its 2 heats and a main you'll be done at 4:30, if you run on the hour. If we run 3 heats and a main (which most all prefer) we;d still be done at 5:30.

I suggest 2 p.m. start. (if he only opens at 11/12)

Different people on different days. Jessica is there on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays (with Nick), and (I think) Sundays. Not sure about Tuesdays and Wednesdays, probably Nick. Closed Mondays.

It is very informal. Just go to the register upstairs in the hobby shop and register. They'll let you know when they will run.

Our track, Classic Hobbies, in Akron, Ohio just had our second running of the new Slash class. It was great fun and had the most spectators of any class all day.

I announce the races and often caught myself slacking in the announcing just to watch the fun.

Good luck on the new class.

Fun day racing the slash truck on the new layout...we relocated some of the black pipe and made the track a little more technical. along with a off camber jump thats pretty sweet. This is just perfect for the electric guys.

the slash crowd seems to be very steady.....Brian V. rally those stadium truck guys:)

Alittle more grooming of the track it will be perfect for the 12th of july

Hey everyone, I know I'm not very close to you guys but you look like a friendly group and I wanted to ask your opinion on something. I am thinking about buying a Slash because I can't afford to keep up with MT truggy crowd anymore. My question is do you think people will stick with this new slash for a long time or is everyone going to switch to the new 4wd nitro Slayer when it comes out. I know you can only speak for yourselves but I would like to hear your opinions. I would hate it if I bought the slash and everyone switched to the slayer because I can't afford both. Thanks!

the slash class will continue to be there if there are racers for the class. ..meaning a steady turn out. since the class started (slash released to public) we have been racing every weekend. This is very important if no one shows it kills a class very quickly.

so my question would be do you plan to racing (slash) frequently because that helps in the perception of the class staying around.

As for the nitro slayer we cannot race because of the the noise of the motor. that being said some people may convert to BL/lipo (using revo electric conversion kit of some kind). I will run both:devil:

but heck yeah if you are serious about racing the slash then we are there every Saturday.... but we need a continous turn out for it to be a success.

box stock is the rule
1. You can change reciever only (your own radio)
2. change shock oil/preload only
3.everything else remains stock from factory (including servo)
4. any factory made stick pack no bigger than 4600mah no lipo
5. deans (any connector)are ok ,direct solder motor wire ok too.
6 any gear ratio

the idea is get a cheap class of racing with out all the stupid rules making it complicated for the new guy to get into rc racing

Most important of all have fun

besides after working all week RC racing should be fun and not stressful.
some people do not understand that concept . we are a good group of guys that will help out if there are any questions on your slash.

come out and race with us. Indy slots is very laid back enviroment. But if your looking for a PRO series this state race that in your face military style hurry hurry hurry we got rules out the *&) @$ ,you wont find it here, just fun and guys who like to talk about rc cars :)
