Kris Pisarcik 06-14-2008, 02:57 PM Has anyone else started to race these cars at your local track? At RC Alley (formerly RC Avenue) in Bradenville,Pa our class is growing by leaps and bounds. Our numbers go up by 1 or 2 new cars to the class every week! We run the car stock as they come from Losi, you can use any gear that comes with the car, and purchase spare batteries from Losi, associated, etc as long as it is a sport(spec)1100mah pre-assembled pack. They are a blast to run, and they will grip flip so you have to let off in the turns or make very large sweeping turns. We run indoors on indoor/outdoor carpet 120' runline and turn laps very close to 2wd foam stock truck! For under 200.00 a car, battery, overnite charger, spectrum radio,(and spare parts are cheap!) its a great deal and fun class to run. If anyone has any set-up tricks or questions or thoughts go ahead and post.
Thank you,
Kris Pisarcik
DAVON 06-14-2008, 09:58 PM PUT A STRIP OF ELECTRICAL TAPE AROUND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE..ABOUT HALF OF IT...CUT THE REST OFF...HEAT THE EDGE OF THE TAPE WITH A LIGHTER SO IT SHRINKS AROUND THE TIRE(LIKE SHRINK WRAP)...THE YOU CAN GO THROUGH THE CORNERS ALOT FASTER...NO MORE ROLLING OVER:thumbsup:
ALSO I SAW ON ANOTHER SITE...RESET YOUR ESC...ITS SEEMS TO BE FASTER AFTER YOU DO THIS.
I HAVE BOTH THE SLIDER AND LATE MODEL AND THEY ARE FUUUUUUN!!!!!
Kris Pisarcik 06-15-2008, 09:11 AM Thanks for the info I'll be trying these on practice night this wednesday. What was the other site that mentioned reseting the esc?

Mark #10 06-16-2008, 04:44 PM We're having a blast with them!! Built a lil dirt track at my buddies house, and we have 4 to 6 of us racing every Saturday Night. They are so much fun on the dirt! Side by side, slide job after slide job!
Like you say...$190 ready to race....can't beat it! Of course I had to spring for a clear body so I could paint it up and decal it!

Kris Pisarcik 06-16-2008, 06:09 PM Car looks great! You even made mud plugs. What did you use? The outdoor track you built, what is the rough size of it?
Thanks again,Kris

Thanks Kris!
The mud plugs are just a piece of packing foam from a novak speed control box. Cut it out in a circle, and wedge it in there!
The track we built is 24 foot long from apex to apex. The infield is about 6 foot wide. 8 to 10 foot lanes. Banked clay! We're gonna put a wall all the way around it, and we figured like 110 ft.around on the outside.
We keep it really wet, and pack it in with a golf kart. We're having a blast! The track isn't too big..but thats the point. Keep it small, so we all run stock, and just have fun! Easier to maintain too!
JasonAB25 06-16-2008, 11:27 PM Car looks good Mark. Have you talked to Craig and Dan about coming down to Silvis some night?? I think they are having a pretty good time over there as are the rest of us. Take care.

matt_s86 06-17-2008, 12:20 PM I had heard there was a better set of brushes to run in these motors to prevent the constant hanging up the stock ones do. Anybody know what ones they are? I'd really like to do this.
BTW, that Late Model looks awesome! They look even better when you remove the mount from the shock tower and lower them down to where they should be.
Matt
RCRacer00 06-17-2008, 09:21 PM We had a guy in last Sunday At Turn 4 running some laps with one fo these, I'd love to see a class.

What mount are you talking about and can you post a pic. Body dose set to high.

THERE IS A SUPPORT MOUNTED ON THE FRONT SHOCK TOWER...IT HITS THE BODY RIGHT UNDER THE AIR CLEANER...YOU CAN REMOVE IT OR CUT IT DOWN AND THEN MOVE THE BODY LOWER ON THE POSTS.
nutz4rc 06-19-2008, 03:41 PM Trinity has a brush for micro motors (includes Slider and Mini Late Model) comes with new springs also. They just released a XXX high silver brush (no springs). I bought three sets today. One for Slider, one for Mini LM, and one for back up motor I keep in box.
jmccormick 06-22-2008, 10:11 AM We had a group of these little hot rods race for the first time @ maximus and Heath asked me to take one and run it. All I can say is what a blast these cars rock I am seriously considering running one as a second class......

Kris Pisarcik 06-22-2008, 09:10 PM I made some changes to my car from last week, softened up both front springs and left rear. Added some rake to the body with spoiler on. Adjusted camberlinks to compensate for wear issues. And the car car be ran flat out all the way around the track(indoor carpet). And charging the stock packs at 1.5 amps/dis 5 amps really brought car to life the whole race. We are now turning more laps than the stock foam tire trucks! These are really great small/mid size vehicles. I could only image brushless in these! I think the only way you could hold the speed in the turns is with a lexan wall mounted on the inside, just a thought. Anyone out there running a brushless car like this I would like to know if its working for you?
Thanks, Kris

I have one Mini LM running stock/stock and one setup with Mamba25/6800kv combo -- racing on indoor dirt oval (about 190' racing line)... I'm having trouble finding guys wanting to race 18th scale, so it's a bit frustrating..
My best with stock slider was 43 laps... My stock Mini LM has run 49 laps... My brushless has run 52 laps... (my best with my 19t 10th scale truck is 52 laps...)
With Brushless, the car is a rocket! I could easily go "faster", but it would just roll over in the turns! LOL! Traction is good enough to run slicks on the rear, with stock fronts, battery on the left and 0.9oz of weight on the LR corner of the chassis, behind the battery, and the car just "dances" in the turns, with the left side getting very light, as it wants to roll over... Even with these issues, I can run laps in practice right alongside the Open Mod 4wd latemodel 10th scales! SOOOO MUCH FUN!
I smell a side air dam in my future, and maybe a lower traction RF tire to try to keep the left side on the ground...:woohoo:
PS: with the brushless, I can't go Lipo because I need the left side weight of the NiMh cells! One guy tried going to Lipo, and the only way he could get it to stop rolling over in the turns was to put the Lipo in the center battery slot and use a NiMh pack on the left side as BALLAST! LOL! Are we having FUN or WHAT?.... :)

It isn't dirt oval, but we're running LM's (stock motors) on carpet at Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, MO. I realize it's a bit of a drive....
We run the LM's every Thursday night and on selected Saturdays as part of our Summer Carpet Oval Series. Next Saturday event is July 19.
We have 5 - 7 LM's most of the time. Our LM rules are on our website ( www.fastlanehobby.com ). I understand the comments about grown men acting like kids. We're having a ball running these things and never fail to come off the driver's stand with big grins on our mugs.

Mark #10 06-28-2008, 12:44 AM Some shots from the track we built at my buddy's house. We have a wall up on it now. Will get some new pics soon!

A quick question on your rules... Is it OK to change the battery/ESC connectors? Back when the Slider came out, some locals had problems with the stock connectors, and we started changing to Deans for reliability and to make it easier to use our chargers, etc...
B mullins 07-13-2008, 10:17 AM Is the stock speed control for the late model capable of using a Lipo battery?
tfrahm 07-13-2008, 10:24 PM I think LOSI says it can "use" a Lipo battery, but it does NOT have a low voltage cutoff...
Locally some racers are using Lipo with no problems, but in part that is because a 5 minute race never takes the battery too low on voltage, so it's OK... When they practice, they have to watch how long they run to be "safe"...

Yep we've had multiple people do the same thing. The next saturday race is August 2nd, then we'll run August 16th and Sept 6th.
Tim Mc 07-27-2008, 04:07 PM Nice little dirt oval & great looking rides. You guys rock!!
Kris Pisarcik 09-04-2008, 07:01 PM Heres a video from the indoor track at Altoona,Pa. I know they are the sprints but it shows the track and the racing surface there.
