Which is faster?

Any of the above can be a winner. Consistantly though, I think the JL Fast and Furious R1 are the fastest out of the box. An AFX with a mean green, red devil, or drag arm might do better, but it really ain't a similar car at that point.

The fastest I have seen are the AW Flamethrowers thry blow away all the other AW/JL XT's

JL/AW may be slightly faster, but nothing ran smoother than the original.

I got a stock MT at a yard sale once that blew away everything else in my box. Sometimes it's not the pedigree of the car but how it was built.

For pure chassis speed, I don't think any one release's chassis are better than the others. Just a matter of tuning the chassis. One thing to consider is the body you're racing with. The Mopar releases are mostly bad bodies. The Challengers are all made with 4x4 stances, the Chargers (all variations)are just plain bulky. The Roadrunner, Cuda, Ram Pickup, and Viper are the good Mopar bods.

The best bodies are the Chevelle Stocker, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Corvette Roadster, '57 Nomad, Ram Pickup, Racing Camaro.

The worst - Challenger (all variations), Nissan Skyline, '46 Ford, Charger Daytona, Hummer (duh), Baja Bronco, McClaren (4x4 stance).

Hard to say. I have a few JL XTs that are consistently faster than an original MT but a few "special" hopped up MTs (Mean green, Blue drag, Red Devil and Quadralam) that will blow those away. The JLs have new and slightly thicker magnets which might also account for some of the speed. The newer JLs and Auto Worlds are much better than the first editions. I just took delivery of a new AW Ultra G (Roscoe's Monaco) that was plenty quick right out of the box (of course I did a little "tuning" like I do every new chassis to make it smoother and faster). They should be faster...they are 40 years newer and hopefully better production and engineering technology.

I think the magna tractions are smoother, but in the classes we raced at Mean Genes snakepit, the Fast-n-Furious cars where too hard to beat. (I still will race my all time favorite blue/yellow Corvette GT #12)

What about just shaving the posts down on the 4x4's jl bodies to get them lower?

The XT's don't have posts, they have mounting brackets where the 'doors' are on the body. You'd have to make'em higher than they are to lower the body's position on the chassis.

It would lower the body, but it may not be legal in organiazed racing (if that's what you're looking to do).

In my own informal testing I found that an Aurora M/T was faster off the line but JL could catch it at the end of a long straight. A friend of mine and I traded leads back and forth on his track for quite a while with the two cars with simular bodies.

But if you replaced the Aurora M/T arm with a mean green it was no contest....

At my 1/4 Mile HO Drag Strip the AW Flamethrowers were the fastest in stock form. The pickup system is made different.

As far as I'm concerned the Fast abd Furious releases are the fastes smoothest pancake cars I have run.

I wound up with one out of a case (12) of the Fast and Furious release that is fast and smooth enough to bother with. It hauls and runs very smooth and quiet. Oiled it and replaced the rear tires. Most likely because it has wheels the run true. Oiled it and replaced the rear tires was all it really needed.

A NOS Mangatraction hands the rest of 'em their butts.
