View Full Version : Any lipo's besides the Orion 3200????
RCRacer00 06-14-2008, 09:37 AM Wanting to get an idea of what batteries are being used foro racing? I see that most are using the orion 3200 2cell. Will we be seeing a change of battery choice for the coming indoor carpet season? We would like to offer a lipo class at our track and would like to get some guide lines inplace.
Jesse Bean 06-14-2008, 09:47 AM roar.org has come a long way in the last year! got some stand up/ respectable people on the commitee making decisions!
Echeconnee 06-14-2008, 12:10 PM I would suggest sticking to the Orion for the time being. We will allow up to the 3600 Orion lipo until the first of the year.
RCRacer00 06-14-2008, 09:05 PM Why the ORION battery? Why not other companies? I'm asking cuz I know my customers/Racers are going to ask
Echeconnee 06-14-2008, 09:15 PM It eliminates a lot af variables, it's a great product and it's reasonably safe because the cases are hard plastic that are form fitted to fit well into battery slots.
hankster 06-14-2008, 11:26 PM I've been testing some Yeah Racing 3200mAh packs. Hard case like the Orion (but a bit wider). They seem to perform as good as the Orion but only cost about $40 each. Our local off-track(s) rules only state a "hard case" pack is required, they don't require ROAR approved packs.
jflack 06-14-2008, 11:38 PM What motor class will you be offering? If its 21.5 BL lipo then I would just go with Roar approved 3200s. 17.5 BL lipo should be roar approved Lipos. See the Roar web site for approved batteries. Roar Lipo rules are pretty good and should be used as a guideline for your racing classes.

The biggest reason the 3200's are used by most is simply because it takes out MOST of the question about battery performance.
I'd bet the other 3200 series batteries are really close - but if you take a look at the 'brushless motor' thread ...guys make huge deals out of SAME MFG. products that have a variance...mixing products from MFG.s only makes that even worse IMHO. (Not that it makes bad racing...just the PERCEPTION of someone having something 'better')
trailranger 06-15-2008, 11:25 AM I've been running some YeahRacing 3200's and I think they have more punch than my Reedy 5000's in stock. If your club racing has a open battery policy, these batteriescan save you a few bucks.

I think this is great idea. Other tracks using a hardcase 3200mAh lipos.
Awesome for the racer and Spec classes.
I don't believe in ROAR rules.
There outdated and can't keep up with the new technology.
I myself use the Kokam Orion lipos.
There priced at $66.00 at Sormer Hobbies.
JasonAB25 06-21-2008, 07:50 PM The Orion's are all great packs and they have some wonderful customer service if you ever have any issues. I have also ran the Yeah Racing packs and for $40 you really can't go wrong in my opinion. I've been running them in EDM with a 10.5 and once in a LM with a 13.5.
