I have a extra long Maxtrax Scorpion layout in a comerical setting. I used 1/8" Plexiglass in all turns. It is clear and it looks good. One problem, it keeps getting broken I people getting their cars.

I was thinking about using the white 1/4" or so sign board that people use to make signs for elections, they run the rods of a sign holder between the layers.

I was even thinking about having some promotions printed on them at a sign shop before I mount them around the track. They will give more than plexiglass to when I car hits them. They will be easy to mount with just 1/8" studs running through the middle of them.

Question??? What would be the recommended minim height so that they want block the view of the turns?

Also, any other recommendations or Pros and Cons to the use of the sign boards?

Thank you!!!

The plexiglass is broken by the marshalls?
Wow! Tough crowd...
All kidding aside, how high are the walls?
And as for your solution, go for it!
I would think 4 inches would be plenty tall enough.
You could make some walls from 2" to 4" and try the different sizes to see what works best...

A thinner alternative would be to use the clear "glass" from a poster frame, cut down into 3"-4" strips.

Another idea I use on my track is that the clear wall sections are only fastened to the table at their beginnings and ends, through the curves they are supported from behind by finish nails with plastic tubing covering them. Hard to explain, but this gives the wall flex in any direction, it's great on the cars and if you lean on it it just flexes towards the track. Actually, you wouldn't lean on it cuz you'd feel right away that it's not a supporting structure.

1/8th clear PVC strips fitted into a plastic strip used for joining tileboard (cheap stuff for bathrooms) works real good to.

Netting would be good because you can see through it and it will give when the cars hit it.

Plexiglass is the wrong material for that, use clear Lexan and it won't break.

I would try some first before purchase maybe pick up a couple from the local party(ies) headquarters. I think the biggest problem is they will crease if bent to hard and when they crease there is no straightenen out because that crease will remain. In my profession I come across many of those type of signs and they are not as flexible or tough as many people think.
