hi to all
ive ben lookin 4 ages and fell across this site duno if any1 can help to fix my lads engine for his 1st bike, it was getting harder and harder to start until it wouldent ... i found out its a solid state ignition 50cc ive reset the distance between the coil and magneto ive disconnected the kill switch wire and got a new spark plug the magneto is strong (i think) so i put a screwdriver up where the plug goes and kicked it over and i get a small pulse through the screwdriver, there is only 2 parts to it a magnito & coil .... is this a sign of the coil failing  dont wana buy 1 until i know 4 sure.

Solid state ignotions either fire or dont fire. Try getting a gap type spark tester and see if spark will jump across the gap. Also check your compression You will need a compression tester and the compression should be between about 75 and 150 PSI ( thats general rule of thumb i use for 2 cycle engines. ) If your compression is in a good range then check to make sure you are getting fuel. Do that by pouring a little bit of 2 cycle mix directly into the carb throat and try starting it. Also make sure you make sure the spark plug itself is fireing.
