View Full Version : Progress being made.
NTxSlotCars 06-12-2008, 05:41 PM I went by an old hobby shop the other day to leave some flyers for our racing club. I ran into a guy that has been racing at a local 24th scale track that told me about a couple of HO scale stuff going on. Turns out, one of the names I recognized and haven't seen him in years. He gave me his phone number and I called the guy. We are racing at his place this Friday! There may soon be a four track HO league down here in Texas, at least in the Dallas area. Hey, maybe we could start some national league with different divisions and stuff! We could have a playoff leading to a national title, like the BCS! We could even have a swap meet, with out Ebays permission! I could be getting ahead of myself, but things sure are looking good. Any racers in Oklahoma?
Rich

NTxSlotCars 06-21-2008, 06:42 PM :thumbsup:Lot's has happened the past couple of weeks since that phone call. Last weekend Larry and I went to Carrolton and raced on Dan's Maxx track. They layed out a Gjet Iroc class so we could get familiar with their cars and the track. We ran one round per race and the competition was close. We met a guy named Boz, who drove over 60 miles each week to come race there, and 'The General', a wealth of knowledge, racing since the early sixties, he really has seen it all. They wanted to come over to Larry's track and run an event there.
The next week, I met a guy on ebay. He had a collection and a track for sale and left his number in the add. Location was Waxahachie, not real close, but still in the Dallas area. I called him and found out he had been racing and collecting for years. He and his friends had thought they were the only ones interested in HO slot car racing in Texas. I invited them for our race in Forney at Larry's track.
Everyone showed up. Racers from Garland, Carrolton, Wylie, Forney, Waxahachie, and Allen! What a night! We raced four big races and had a blast. Two more tracks are in the works, a new track in Wylie, and a 21st Century routed track in Dallas. All of these tracks have their own character. We hope to start a series soon!

Dallas Slot Cars. 21st Century Track. I think this track belongs to Kyle. We haven't raced there yet.

The track in Wylie, TX is on hold for now.
Boz went to California, LA area, and picked up a 4 lane Max Track. I think it was used in Fray racing. We raced on it a couple of weeks ago. No pics yet.
That's the update! Things are rolling along with enough tracks around for everyone.
Coach, can you post up some pics of your track? Maybe we can make it out there to race on it one day.

RiderZ 11-20-2008, 08:16 PM Absolutely a great bunch of tracks to race on.Have fun guys!!!
Need to get some of those tracks down in South Texas - Houston area - now. We have one 1/24 track on the West side in Houston and one 1/32 and an occassional 1/24 track on the Northwest side of town not too far from where I live. As far as I know, no HO tracks here. The Northwest track had talked about putting one in so that they would have one of each - HO, 1/32, and 1/24 - but as far as I know it did not happen.
PD2:thumbsup:
resinmonger 11-22-2008, 02:07 PM That's a great group of tracks, Rich. Proves the saying that "everything's big in Texas". In this case, it's the number and quality of the tracks!
ScottD961 11-22-2008, 02:30 PM Rich , those are some awesome looking tracks ! I'll bet they are a lot of fun to race on .Keep us updated on your scenery details too.

xert82 01-23-2009, 01:24 PM Hello Rich, I am moving to Lawton Oklahoma early February and I love to race HO. I found your post asking about racers in Oklahoma. It may be a minute until I can get setup again, but I have the equipment to setup the Glendale 50 raceway, found on Gregory Braun's website (hoslotcarracing.com). The bad news is I will have to setup in the garage this time. I will have a single bay of a two car garage to work with. I know the summer will be tough, but I hope with ceiling fans and floor fans, it will work out. Let me know what you think. The DFW area is a little far to travel for a single night of racing because of the job, but who knows. Please let me know what kind of response you got about racers in Oklahoma. Thanks.
RUSSELL ZACHRY 01-23-2009, 10:35 PM Wow, if we could get some more going on here in Abilene Texas, that would be great too. We could run for the state championship.
