K.J.Price 06-14-2008, 08:47 AM What a where is this track? It kinda looks like a smaler Velo...........
swtour 06-14-2008, 12:05 PM K.J. Price
That is the ENCINO VELODROME in Southern California, this track has had R/C Racing for over 20 years, and was the 'Original Home' of Dan & Gary's RCThunderdrome in the late 80's and early 90's.
This track is only 250 meters (vs. Major Taylor in INDY which is 333 meters) ...about 840 ft. vs. 1120 or so.
K.J.Price 06-14-2008, 02:44 PM Thats what i was thinkin that it is a tad smaller then the one in Indy.I have ran the one in Indy and the cars dont look that big goin down the back stretch.
Racin'Jason 8 06-17-2008, 12:27 PM What class is that?
swtour 06-17-2008, 12:59 PM Jason,
The **Allstar** class this year was 17.5/LIPO, which on the day before the shootout at the regular series race, set a new track record going 31 laps in 5 minutes. (Only a couple years ago that would have won our 4 cell OPEN MOD mains)

.....LiPo looks to be promising, eh?
swtour 06-17-2008, 01:12 PM For the most part we are loving the LIPO's.
Our SLOW class is the 21.5/LIPO, which ran a 28/5:00 or :01, which is 3 full laps faster than we ran in 4 cell STOCK, yet the cars are very easy to drive and they don't feel like they are going that fast.
Hastings 06-17-2008, 07:55 PM 31 laps at the velo.......man thats fast........
swtour 06-17-2008, 08:21 PM LOL Jason
Here's the quote on the SWTour Web Site
Hastings ran the ONLY 31 lap run in qualifying setting an 'unofficial' track record and becoming the FIRST driver to hit the 31 lap mark. (Jason Hastings 31/5:09.47)
GOOD RUN BTW - and if you hadn't had a bad start in Segment 2 on Sunday - you car was THERE!
trailranger 06-18-2008, 10:45 PM SW, I think your turn marshalls need pool-skimmers or gigging spears to clear the track. I would be afraid of stepping infront of a 50mph missle.
swtour 06-18-2008, 11:14 PM ...in the crashfest video - it was my SON (in the red shirt) trying to get to the stalled car of Brad's on the front straight... HE was SKEERED!
MOST of the wrecks on that track are usually self cleaning w/ the high banking...but BRAD'S Car broke, or hit the way and broke...or something and wouldn't roll.
The really dangerous part of the track is the APRON in the corners...cause guys who are FAST try to drive down there..and leave NO room for cars to get going again....we've been really LUCKY for injuries.
