Just purchased a WindTunnel digital durometer and had a question on the correct method for reading. Although no instructions were included it's use is pretty obvious. My question is this: it seems that my readings vary every time I use. I have tried several methods while using to obtain close results to advertised duro readings, but I'm looking for a preferred method?

Dan, sell it and just buy 3 purples and XXpurple (RF) Windtunnel tires and you will never need to worry :)

Ouch! Who do you drive for Raymond? Wind who?LOL! Dave and I decided to get the duro just for some comparisons while digging through some of our old tires. In the past, I have gotten tires that may have been mis-marked and just want to be sure.
Hows things in the valley? Haven't seen much activity on AZ Pan car lately.Working?
Take it easy,
Dan

...what's the Duro # on the windtunnel purples? lol

Dan,

I don't have a windtunnel duro, so I'm not sure if it measure different than the old MaxMod ones... but with the old MaxMod one, I kind of roll it from the side as the needle depresses into the tire, and check 2-3 places across the tire width (staying away from any glue joints if they have them)

I was and still am amazed at how different duro numbers are between MFGs - but I think there are a couple good charts out there someplace that list most of the different companies ratings vs. the colors.

(Not having a tire guy - I run what ever I can get CHEAP!)

HEY Raymond! How's the oval working out over at SRS? Wish the local airline that was flying into Phoenix/Mesa wouldn't have dropped the flight - it really screwed up my SUMMER Plans - I was hoping to be able to drop by there a couple times...

Joe, the track pretty good:) we have been running 4-cell/13.5, lipo/21.5 and a stock type class 4-cell/17.5, 4-cell/27t
But fun:)
13.5/21.5 is a good speed for the track. easy to drive but not wide open. Yeah gas price's are keeping all kinds of people home :(

Captdan make shure there is enough foam on the wheel or the reading will be off its best to check them new and make shure you hold the durometer straight up and down or the reading will be off.

Hey Dan - You getting that Durometer figured out yet?

I don't have the digital as I mentioned, but when I duro my tires...I also measure them, and write the SIZE on the tire tread surface w/ a SILVER SHARPIE pen, then write the DURO number on the inside of the wheels (In SILVER on black wheels, and in BLACK on the RC4Less wheels.)

I'll do a whole bunch at one time - so the method that day is the same on pretty much all of them - and I figure within 2-3 points, I'm probably pretty close.

HOW's Racing in FLAGSTAFF/COTTONWOOD this year? We had a airline flying to PHOENIX that was ReALLY CHEAP..and I had hoped to get up THAT way this summer too - but it no longer flies in... (They royally screwed up my SUMMER plans)

Hi Joe,
With some patience we have gotten some accurate readings ( and some off the charts ) Have gotten closer readings on new tires for sure.
Racing here in Flag has been fun, Lipo 17.5 is the BOMB! On our 300 ft track, the racing has been very close. It's always anyones guess as to the winner. The track here in Flagstaff is probably the best surface we have ever run on!
Flagstaff Hobbies has done a great job on track set-up and promoting the sport. We still struggle a little bit with the oval classes from week to week but overall turn-out has been pretty good.
