Has anyone removed the syncro balance system from the internal of a briggs engine and run the engine after that? If so what were your results?

Iv seen a syncro balanced engine run when the little connecting rod that holds the balance weights to the side of the engine broke. the results where NOT good. It shock the engine pretty good and im sure was just before causing major damage. Luckly my uncle is a smart man and knows when something on a mower isn't working right to stop using it and fix it himself or call me.
