I hope this doesn't sound to crazy

But iv been working on a mower for the past few hours. The engine that came on it is shot. ( Deep scoring in the cylinder walls. and piston ) The replacement engine I have the PTO was to long. So i cut the shaft off to where it needed to be. Now the keyway for the blade adaptor isn't long enough. Since Im friends with a few machineist (sp?) would it be possible to get the keyway extended a little ?

Nevermind I just realized their isn't a threaded hole in the end of the crankshaft unless that can be machined in also.

No it's not crazy. I've had new keyways put on crankshafts and flywheels of old machines that otherwise were just fine. (Old keyways were so worn that timing was off making them difficult to start!) It's more of a financial decision.

Both operations can be performed by a competant machine shop!

Well I think I am just going to get a piston and connecting rod that will fit out of another engine once i run across one. Will be much eaiser.

Does anyone know why Briggs changes the size of th bearing journal on the cranks where the connecting rod goes?
