View Full Version : Speed versus Load in BLDC Motors

I haven't posted here before and I'll confess that my question isn't related to RC but rather to something else. Like a miniature precision drill press. I'm thinking about using a brushless motor to power it but am worried that the speed regulation won't be good enough.

I guess my question is, if I set the speed with no load, will the RPM stay fairly (say +/- 15%) constant when the drill bit encounters a load? Brush type permanent magnet motors are pretty good about pulling more current under load to try to maintain speed under load, but I didn't know if the brushless motors in the RC world did that.

Another related question is, will the controller work OK hooked up to a DC power supply in place of a battery?

Sorry to be so OT, but I thought you folks would know as well as anyone what the answer is.

Thanks
