I am trying to install the pulley and have found several different opinions on how to install. I have read that you should have the piston at TDC whereas others state that there are alignment marks. Please advise if anone has the "correct" meathod. Hoping to get my Powerwasher running again!

Thanks!

The correct way is with the piston at TDC, there are alignment marks inside the engine if you have the oil pan off.

There are alignment marks on the camshaft pulley that you line up with the top of the cylinder head.

30yrTech, got a diagram from another post showing the alignment marks for the correct timeing installed the cam pulley and installed the belt. Seemed way to easy...installed the cover and the pull cord added some gas and it fired right up on the second pull. This thing ran like a banchee for about 45 secs to 1 min and the POP engine suddenly died. I must admit that I got this from a firend that..lets say isn't very techinal. Now obviously I have another issue.

Does the GCV160 have a throttle control..if so I am not seeing. Is it normal for the RPM's a startup to be really really high and then power down due to no load? Planning to disect it this weekend. So far my free find has only cost me 20 bucks for the pulley....hope it's nothing too expensive to repair!

There may be another problem, either with the governor adjustment, the governor itself, or perhaps the carburetor. If the governor is the problem then you will have to split the case to access the governor.

This weekend split the motor and found a small piece of the pulley that was the original problem had fallen into the crankcase and actually jammed the piston rod and caused it to shadder in to about 5 pieces. otherwise motor in great shape inside and out. I have ordered the piston connection rod ($8.40+shipping). Planning to rebuild and try again!

Thanks again for all the help!
