I need some advice! I want to build an edm car to run on a small carpet oval track, and was wondering what buggy would be a good one to start with? I know that there are many kits out there but I want to build something different. So what should be a donor car- B4, XXX-CR, or ? Please post your opinions and yes, I will be milling out a chassis plate for this new car. Thanks! P.S. Should I make a mid motor car or leave it in the conventional position?

The top "donor" cars are the B3s, and B4s. Talk to Puntam Pro Cars, Go Fast Race Parts, or Jeffery Racing Concepts. All are awesome conversion kits! Most are based off of the Terminator front end design. Also check out Custom Works RC Cars and CDK. CDK has a Conversion kit just for the B3 "donor" cars!

If you get yourself a Barts Electric Sprint Car, i have a conversion kit that i make that converts a Barts car into a LM/EDM.

Mid Mount is your best bet for a EDM!

Also check out Dirtoval.com. The top place for RC Dirt Oval!

Hope this helps a tad
Thanks

I thank you guys for the replies, but I am wanting to build something unique, and was wondering about a good place to start. How about a losi edm with a custom chassis?

The only problem with basing it on a Losi is the front end design. You almost have to use B3/B4 front end parts so you can use "standard" wheels such as Custom Works wheels. I'd base it off a B3 or a B4 parts.

I ran a b-3 for a couple of years and had good success with it, I had a couple of a-main wins and was always competitive with it. I even ran the assoc. gold shocks that had to be rebuilt every couple of weeks. The biggest problem I had with it was too tight out or too loose out with rarely any really good forward bite. BUT on entry it was wicked fast. Its a good choice if you like to mess with the setups a lot.

using a losi shouldn't have any issues, they have 3/16" front axles just like associated's so you should be able to use CW wheels just fine, also due to the offset that losi uses in the rear, the wheels will keep the car square, unlike a b3 where the rear is a lot narrower than the front with CW wheels. I'm not real familiar with losi tranny's but if you can flip all the internals around and mid motor it easy enough, thats the way to go for a high grip surface like carpet, if you were runnin a loose surface dirt oval, rear motor setup would be the ticket. One thing that will aide your edm build would be a set of oval shock towers from speedy's (www.speedysracingparts.com) Factory Works (www.factoryworks.com). they will alow you to run shorter, touring car shocks, which work bets on carpet...

Losi trucks yes have 3/16 axles. Buggies unless they changed them with the XXXCR have the bearings in the front steering spindle and use a hex for the wheel to fit on. I haven't looked at a CR yet but I don't know as they changed that?

Losi's are kind of a bear to turn around. Takes quite a bit of spacing and modification to do it. This is one area Assoc. has a BIG advantage. :)

yea associated trannies, up until the t4/b4 are easy to swap around because the cases are symmetrical... maybe you can use the the losi truck front spindles with buggy arms and c-hubs? i knew the older xx buggies used the hex, didn't know the newer ones did too...

Been there done that with the original XXCR/XXTCR. :) Makes the front end kind of W I D E. I don't believe it will work with the newer kits due to different king pin sizes. (don't quote me on that!)

seems like associated are just easier to convert, maybe for something different, it won't be worht it

A guy at our track made an EDM from a Losi buggy and used Mini-T aluminum A-Arms in the front to narrow it down. It actually lasted the entire season he raced it. But EDM died this year at our track.

Losi work just fine, TM makes tires that bolt rite on front/rear.
I used the front and rear clips from a bk bugy, with a fiberglass chassis and had great results. the DRC body was the biggest help for sure:thumbsup:

Not to be the bad guy again but unless they changed them the TM wheels aren't very durable with their "star" design. We had a guy that they lasted one week of racing. Hit the pipe and broke the center right out. I really like the TM pancar and buggy (B3/B2/RC10) wheels but the truck and buggy (XX) ones need a redesign. :( If they would do them like the pancar/Assoc. buggy wheels they'd be killer!

Look at a Duratrax Evader BX if you want unique. They're cheap, (around $100 with a Tower online sale coupon) durable, and all the parts are available. You can do everything to them that you would do to the B series and XX cars.

Mine stays with everything else on the track - figure a way to set them up and everything else is the same.
