View Full Version : Loose coming off help, please.......
latemodel100 06-01-2008, 12:23 AM I am running a Bandit Gunslinger Nitro, on a asphalt oval slightly banked.....
LF Pink L Pro
RF Green L Net
LR Pink L Pro
RR Pink R Net
Turns great going in and mid fine, but from mid off is loose even after some warm up......
Tried letting off in the corners and getting back on the gas after the corner but then I loose my speed.......
Tried running a higher line and loosing lap time......
ScottH 06-01-2008, 04:25 AM What body, wing, wing height, RF spring, LF spring, center spring, LR spring, RR Spring, shock oils and ride heights?
What is the grip level of the track? How hot is the track?
I would start by putting a RR pink net on the car.
Benjie Wright 06-01-2008, 01:23 PM Don't know how loose you are talking about, but if youre just buzzing the tires, try little things such as softer center spring, slide the wing back a little or just tighten up your rear stagger a little. If youre spiining out loose try softer left rear tire, stiffer rf spring, and more left rear weight. But most importantly- don't get aggravated, just keep trying little things. Later=Benjie Wright
latemodel100 06-01-2008, 08:14 PM Oh never gonna get aggrivated to that point, LOL....... This IS MY Hobby/Sport, just trying to get around the track alittle better..... Not slipping around too much but alittle more than buzzing the tires.... It seems to come around once the tires get some wear in them...... Softer than pinks is Red, holy cow, LOL........ This track is made for 1/4 scale, so its good to go, no big ruts or cracks..... Trying to get it to work in the big corner, I can let off in the smaller corner and it works just fine...... So getting some suggestions, which I now have will try again and figure it out.....
add tweak,it helps drive the car off the corner
ScottH 06-01-2008, 08:45 PM sorry LM I read that late on the the way home from the GASCAR race. you have a pink on the RR.
What doe the RF look like after a run?
Echeconnee 06-01-2008, 09:21 PM The green RF is more than likely your 1 st problem you need to address. Try a net pink on the RF. Make sure you dont have the left rear tucked too far to the right and last but not least, if you are not running hard enough side springs the car will continue to roll too far into the corner and seem loose off. There are a lot of causes for this problem so I am just giving a few off the top of my head
latemodel100 06-01-2008, 11:01 PM sorry LM I read that late on the the way home from the GASCAR race. you have a pink on the RR.
What doe the RF look like after a run?
Its all good, the RF looks waved/feathered like its pushing it way around, so I made some camber adjustments to decrease that large of an amount.....
latemodel100 06-01-2008, 11:03 PM that green on the lf could cause the car to hook off when it heats up. Also make sure you dont have the left rear tucked too far to the right and last but not least, if you are not running hard enough side springs the car will continue to roll too far into the corner and seem loose off. There are a lot of causes for this problem so I am just giving a few off the top of my head
Gonna try some things mentioned here and up above, will post results and what I went with......
I am loving Nitro way more than Electric, so you guys may see me for a race or two this summer and I may get to make the trip to the Nats as well.....
Echeconnee 06-01-2008, 11:44 PM LM reread my post. I made a correction about the front tires. I meant to say right front green. You do not want that tire to gator the way you described
ScottH 06-02-2008, 12:32 AM If that RF is gatoring, it is breaking traction then grabbing again, unless the car is pushing, which you said it is getting loose. Castor and Camber adjustment sounds like the right direction.
latemodel100 06-02-2008, 12:41 AM ScottH Using the 5 hole Castor Block Arm is in the bottom hole with +1 Camber......
I can try the Pink Net after I get a chance to try the new adjustments ^^^^^^
COYOTE 06-02-2008, 12:58 AM You might try taking the stagger out of the rear. If you are running a RR on the right rear, an L on the left rear might be too much stagger. Try running the rear straight up and see what that does.
Echeconnee 06-02-2008, 09:03 AM I want to add to what Scott said. Not only are you losing traction on the RF when the tire gators, you are more than likely using more steering going into the corner and once you get through and you are driving up off the left front that is not having any traction issues is causing you too hook. The left front is a major player in driving up off the corner but not really any where else.If that RF is gatoring, it is breaking traction then grabbing again, unless the car is pushing, which you said it is getting loose. Castor and Camber adjustment sounds like the right direction.
latemodel100 06-02-2008, 11:29 AM So what would be a good starting T Plate and Spring combo...... I have big shocks on all three.........
Echeconnee 06-02-2008, 11:55 AM I like a soft T-Plate so I have more options on spring rate for the center shock. I am not sure what to tell you on your side shocks as I use the IRS hard coated micro shocks. I would run pretty stiff though
latemodel100 06-02-2008, 01:48 PM Gonna build a second car once I get this one figured out and try the Micro Shocks on it, I used to run Micro on the sides, but this car came with Macros, they look like HPI, IRS or the RC4Less Macro Shock.........
So I will try some things with them............
ScottH 06-02-2008, 07:29 PM Having not seen the track it is tough to say.
I think the KSG's are running Fiberglass t-plates, all of the Coyote cars are running spring steel.
I run different oil and springs from LPR to Easley.
Can you give some details about the track, run line, straights vs. turns, banking and such.
Pictures would be great too!
latemodel100 06-04-2008, 01:20 PM So basically the Tire arsenal I should have is Pink Green Pro Net and mostly all size L some S and R?
Narrow only on Pro (left) side?
Can you run Narrow on Net (right) side? Or is it not adventagious to do that.
Benjie Wright 06-04-2008, 07:00 PM Not a good idea latemodel, makes the car really darty and hard to control. most tracks require to have Ls on the left side and a R for the right rear. Normally an L will work on the right front fine. If the car is loose you can go to either a S on the right front or tighten up the stagger in the rear with an S. But if money is a problem then start with 3 Ls and a R on the right rear, and then try to work on springs, ride height, and shocks to get the car to handle better. Later The Phenom- Hope to see ya at the nats!
latemodel100 06-04-2008, 08:40 PM Yayayay awesome I am having a blast with it so far, trying to get the car ready for the Nats that I may hopefully be able to attend..........
Thanks Guys for all your help....
Benjie Wright 06-04-2008, 09:33 PM Hope to see ya there, is this track you are running at, asphalt or concrete?
Is it banked or not? The track at Easely SC is for the most part flat, and Asphalt, just for a heads up most of the guys there have been running 4 pinks. Lf Pink pro lite L---Lr Pink pro lite L--- RR Pink net R--- Rf Pink net L
trying to get flat stagger in the front, and pretty much full in the rear. But it pays to keep a selection that you can get a little less in the rear, and be able to add a little in the front. As far as the side shocks, start with something in the medium firm range- Pretty firm in the center, 40 w oil in the sides and around 80 in the middle, and start with #2 pistons all around. Track is real smooth except out of 4 but it is fine to keep the chassis around 1/4 inch, and add a little droop to the rear pod. Hopefully someone else can add to this and help you out even more. Later=THE PHENOM:wave:
latemodel100 06-04-2008, 10:00 PM http://www.indyquarterscaleracers.org/EVENTPHOTOS.html
That is probably the best description I can give, LOL......
Slight banking I compare it too Chatham R/C I used to race there, but this track is alittle less banking..... Ashpalt real smooth except back straight has some humps in it, but the car seems to sail right over them and they dont seem to upset the car any.... I am gonna go with all Pinks next time out and work from there I think that should work pretty good.... Gonna go through the car as well just to make sure everything is back in working order since I have run it acouple times since the last, blah blah the normal stuff I guess, LOL........
Back to the track the back straight gets cooler faster because of shading form trees overhead, but we are starting to run nights from now on anyway so no big deal there.... Bigger open sweeper turn in 1 and 2 more shallow shorter turn different banking in 3 and 4.....
I will take all advise thus far and get some good results I am sure, being that I am the only one with a 1/10th scale car right now, its no big hurry not competing with anyone, just trying to get things in order for the Nats.....
oldnum3 06-04-2008, 10:11 PM Dont let THE PHENOM lead you down a bummmmmpy road. He has been know to do that occasionally. lol
yokman 06-04-2008, 10:46 PM try tightining the loose nut behind the wheel.
Echeconnee 06-05-2008, 12:05 AM nice track, you should be close on set up for the nats if you get it hooked up on that track. That's a nice place!
latemodel100 06-05-2008, 04:04 AM Yes it is a great place glad I found them to hang out there...... Well plus I do now have a 1/4 scale car as well.....
Yok, man we can not hide anywhere from you huh, LOL....... Cya soon brother....
Benjie Wright 06-05-2008, 03:04 PM Oh, HUSH OLD#3. Help this guy out , Listen to old # 3, he so fast. HE's My Hero. Later=THE PHENOM
latemodel100 06-05-2008, 03:26 PM All the help that has been given is greatly appreciated, thanks again.... Gonna get to the track this weekend Hopefully Friday or Saturday both who knows.....
Let you all know how things turn out....
Benjie Wright 06-05-2008, 06:01 PM Good Luck, and have fun. Later=THE PHENOM
latemodel100 06-15-2008, 12:04 PM OK well yesterday got a little further with the two cars, both are still loose coming off, got all 4 pinks on them both, thinking of trying a Red on the left rear maybe but first I am trying to move that LR out some to widen the rear track a bit to tighten it up some.......
Having a blast, the .09 is good at the beginning of the run but once I loose the weight of fuel it gets loose again so I am figuring it out slowly but surely.......
Hoping to make it south soon so I can get some help from you guys in REAL LIfe instead of doing it from up here, LOL.............
ScottH 06-15-2008, 02:07 PM If your track temps are anything like they are here (110*-140*F), that LR Red is going to be great to start and fade QUICK. It will get super soft and the really greasy.... then round and round you go in tiny little circles. :D
Try the LR spacing first. That LR Red would just be a crutch and not really fix the trouble. IMO.
latemodel100 06-15-2008, 03:07 PM Yeah are track is very slippery during the day...... Still wanting to get some night runs in to see how the track changes, cause we are running our 1/4 scales at night now.
Hmmmm well I shall continue to move it out and widen the rear track for now....
ScottH 06-15-2008, 04:49 PM Where is the RR in respect to center? Also the LR?
latemodel100 06-15-2008, 05:55 PM RR is out to the edge of the chassis and the LR is sucked in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch from the edge. Working with it yesterday it was getting better the more I moved out the LR so its coming along well, just did not make any thing too drastic at one time, a few more shims and I think the .09 will be there.......
ScottH 06-16-2008, 12:13 AM Sounds like you are on the right track.
latemodel100 06-16-2008, 03:23 AM Some weights for ya all in grams of course........

Have fun, just thought I would give you a size up of where I am in my testing, its almost there............
Echeconnee 06-16-2008, 09:39 PM Try a pink RR EHW, it should have less fade as temperatures get up on the track
latemodel100 06-17-2008, 12:34 AM OH yeah will have to get one of those, but now that we are going to night racing I think I might be ok, who knows.......
Echeconnee 06-17-2008, 04:11 PM BTW, there are 3 of us going to the nat's this year from Macon, it's an odd # for splitting hotel costs so if you can make it we could use a 4th
latemodel100 06-17-2008, 06:20 PM Not confirming just yet, still trying to get back into work schedule and hoping to get the days off........
latemodel100 06-29-2008, 02:42 AM OK got Pinks all the way around, played with stagger and still nothing, out track temps are lower than yours I believe, i remember the southern heat, so I think I am gonna try to run some Reds on the inside and see if that wont help out some........
Changed Springs, moved the rears in and out, changed stagger, changed bodies, changed tires compounds, added and too away tweak........
I dont know I am at a loss, going to try the Reds now, going even softer, what the heck its worth a shot.........
Echeconnee 06-29-2008, 09:34 PM What wing are you running? I use the super Bi-Level just about anywhere
latemodel100 06-30-2008, 12:49 AM Got a call from John today gonna try some of the things he asked me to try and return with feedback once I try them out.........
latemodel100 07-20-2008, 07:57 PM I am still working issues with loose coming off, tried Dual Rate Steering, lowered it down to 20 could not turn so I am gonna work on the car more now...... I should be able to turn and not push at 20% at 25% its ok just making the outside of the turns but once I get back in the gas of course i run alittle too close to our grassy edge and then get caught up in it, LOL...........
So its getting closer.............
Benjie Wright 07-20-2008, 09:50 PM It is probably just because you have so much power, I heard somewhere else you got so much you keep blowing the stinger out.
latemodel100 07-20-2008, 10:03 PM Yeah right I wish.......... If i had too much power I would blow the muffler off completely....
Benjie Wright 07-20-2008, 10:06 PM Sounds like to me you have been doing a little research ole boy. Only on more person knows that if you create enough thrust the muffler will fall off.
Ain't that right Mclin. Later-The Phenom:p
latemodel100 07-20-2008, 10:18 PM LOL hey I am pretty good at tinkering, I grew up in the south, just cause I am up north now dont mean I was always here, LOL...........
