Well, not really.

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z262/FresnoPete/MVC-355S.jpg

But tonight I graduated from the University of Phoenix with my Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, after 16 months. I took a leave of absence after my surgery in February, dealt with no money for tuition and had to sell my prized HO Empire (I still get upset with myself for doing that, degree or not), and some serious personal hurtles. I have to credit the wife (pictured) for most of the bad but some of the good too; she is the one that let go of enough cash so I could finish the course. Of course I have to pay her back....hope she's not holding her breath. ;)

I'm planning on retaking my PHR test later this summer. Unfortunately I've failed it twice and now have to repay the testing fees of $175. My previous sponsor for the test backed out after my second time blowing it. This is an intense 6 hour SAT type test with duplicate questions just worded differently. I aced the Employment Law portion, which is hopefully going to be my specialty if I go into HR someday. I'm already studying for the retake.

Anyway, school is done for the time being, and with some luck I'll be able to start building a new Empire. I already have a few T-Jets, some XT's and a half dozen Lifelikes. I need to finish my vacuformer and some molds and get AMG rolling again too. I may troll the 'bay for some deals but I have gotten used to having new stuff now. At least if I have to hire employees I know how to treat them. :)

AWESOME PETE! Congratulations on sticking it out and punching through the 16 months to come out with the degree bro! Making that sort of commitment is enough to tell anyone that you have the ability to commit to something and see it through to the end, regardless of surgery, ex-wives, etc.!

Welcome to Bachelorhood!

Nope. That's the very scary Mrs. McKay. And that is actually a terrible picture of them both, she's much prettier than that and he's much...um....well, maybe that is a good picture of Pete.

Now I can tell my story about how Pete helped me get a better position over as Nissan. A few months ago I was told my department was downsizing. I was on the block to be laid off. Pete come out, spent the day watching us work and wrote up a 10 page proposal on how to consolidate the parts and accessories department. It worked out in such a way that not only did they not lay anyone off, they hired two more guys. Their HR guys from the Bay Area came out to check it out, and from my understanding they're doing it in the store in San Rafel.

What did Pete get out of this (other than having a pal keep a job)? They let him use a 350Z car for the weekend back in March. So...we went drifting. :) When we came back on Monday with the tire tread eaten down to the sidewalls I think they realized who got the better end of the deal.

Now that is too cool! Even if it was just borrowed for the weekend, putting wear and tear on another vehicle for that time was probably worth it and like you said, you got to keep your job and have other co-workers added! That is awesome and definitely something he needs to be sure to add to his resume/experience/background when he is out hunting for that HR opportunity!

Thanks for sharing that Yoshi! Not often you hear of these sorts of stories in public.

I was offered a position with Nissan but turned it down. I love my current job with the city, I'm hoping that somewhere down the road I can actually work for them as an HR generalist.

And she's not so scary. Her attorney is.

I don't know Pete - a position at Nissan (not in car sales or anything) would have been VERY awesome! It's good that you love your job at the city though. It's hard to find places or people that can say they love the place they work. Good luck on getting that promotion to HR generalist! Showing them you put the time and effort into this degree ought to show how dedicated/commited you are to the opportunity!

You'd have to send it to me for um...further inspection. :) But it sounds pretty much like the noises the Z car was making when we returned it.
