no your not way off base, the silly thing is some rocket scientist paid enough to buy 6 or 7 brand new rotors!!!! And your right , it would be nice to know that if you buy a rotor from a shop it hasnt been cherry picked over so they sell the not so great ones at the standard price..THAT is complete and total BULLSH*T!!

There is a Trackside Hobbies in Milwaukee, WI area, but it appears this is in Maryland. I can believe someone paid that for a rotor though. I heard that there were guys at the on-road nats putting in a new speedo for each run. Kinda makes a person wonder.

I saw that on E-bay. I would like too know what the - side read. I have a couple that read 1340 on the + and 1250 on the -
I hope for the buyers sake that this one dosn't read like that. Total wurthless when the split is that great

LOL>>>LOL>>LOL>>I saved that ,and laughed my ass off the other day..
I heard the rotor is going in an S&K car..

For that price the meter should have come with it, along with 30 bucks..

That is pretty wild selling for that price....

I have 4 rotors that measure 1430 or better with that same meter.
The worst one being a 40 point split and my best one reading 1460 with a 11 point split.

Wonder how much I can get for those on ebay?LOL

All that money was wasted... If your car aint right you might as well flush it down the toliet....People just dont realize its about car anymore. They think if I aint got one of them super rotors I cant run with the big boys... Ive had a 10.5 motor in my car all season. I checked my rotor at the Roar nats and it was 1276 and 1274. I set 4th in the main..People are going to forget about chassis now and just be rotor dynoing at the track now...

What can you do, people are stupid. A lot of the stuff posted on HT is what feeds it.

I wouldn't trust any number for a rotor unless it had been ran at least 1 time. I've seen rotors with high #'s that have been bunched together during shipping and storage. I talked to Charlie at the nats last year, he said you will see an increase for about the first min. 1/2 and then after it gets hot it fades hard.

Some people just have to much money. Send your car to a pro and have them build it. That is a better use of $200 bucks.

Hey guys, I resent being called stupid... I really wanted the rotor.

LOL

Seriously though, $200 for a rotor? I want whatever they are smoking, but it sounds like I couldn't afford it the way they spend money.

Let me start off by saying..goodness gracious! Helluva lot for a rotor.. WOW
Next, Trackside, MD? Google it. You will find a book about trains or something along them lines.
The seller has not bought/sold any items in almost 2 years..
It’s funny… haha & peculiar

rumor has it the bidding war does not appear to be legit...every bidder had a hidden identity? very strange..

on a side note: this will fuel tony moffres fire for sure, lol.

I JUST DON'T WANT TO BUY A ROTOR FROM MY LHS AND HAVE IT BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND BE A DUD! WE ALL PREACH SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HOBBY SHOP....

CAN YOU IMAGINE IF YOU KNEW A GUY AT TOWER HOBBIES WHO HAD ACCESS TO THE ROTORS? WOW!

i bet alot of people would buy the best rotor they could get for an edge. just like people will buy the best battery they can get for the money. im not sure why no one believes it.

WOW I hope it Runs good for that price! can't believe you guys are surprised by this though. Hopefully some motor guys start selling stuff like this with + & - numbers and inductance readings on cans so we don't keep wasting our money on duds with loose winds and rotors that are only fit for bashing! It'll probably kill oval racing if we keep goin down this path ,but some will always want every thinkable edge! Hope when LRP and Tekin motors come to oval they are more consistant. That's prolly the only way to fix the path we're on, unless a track specs every rotor and can and does a handout race with a 10 point varience.

What's funny is that more guys haven't figured out that stronger does not necessary equal better, depending on what you're doing.

Of course then again the person also didn't realize that 1355 on that meter may not even be a big deal. Also, didn't realize that if the rotor hasn't been run the reading is pointless.

As much as guys want to complain the reality is magnets have a lot of variation, that won't change for Tekin, LRP or anyone else. Especially since there's a good chance they come from the same place and I guarantee the raw material for them does. Despite all that the BL motors are a whole lot more consistent than brushed ever was. How soon everyone forgets I guess.

Jesse Bean
05-28-2008, 09:38 PM
yeah.. but with brushed we knew what we bought b/c they were dynoed and came with the read out. This is a crap shoot when buying BL motors, like buying a trinity pro tuned motor, lol. At least this is a legitimate edge. you could have more people unwinding the motors till the inductance is about right.....

It was just as big of a crapshoot with stock motors. I can't remember ever seeing a motor from any tuner come out of the package and dyno like the little sheet claimed. The way I remember it a guy was lucky if his com was even relatively close to true on most supposed dyno tuned motors.

The other obvious question would be what are people doing to the motors that they keep buying new ones? I've been running these things for coming up on 4 years this fall. My original 10.5 is actually still fine. My very first 13.5 from the fall before last also runs as well as anything else. Right along with my first sintered rotors from when they came out.

Why do you guys keep buying more of these things?

J-Dub Racing
05-28-2008, 09:50 PM
I think most of us buy more because we think that we cannot be getting beat by setup/chassis. I am in this class. Granted I only have 1 13.5 motor, but I sometimes think if I had "that guys motor" I could win. This is the american way....Buy things to make it better, dont work on it to make it better.

pmsimkins
05-28-2008, 09:55 PM
I'm no different either. But every time I've thought I was short on motor I realized I was wrong. I just switch back and forth between the couple motors I have. In the end they all end up the same.

Took the words right out of my mouth - inconsistant STOCK motors, is one of the reasons I started running Modified years ago...

On the WHY are guys buying motors? BECAUSE they have extra $$$ laying around because they don't have to buy 20 BRUSHED motors...LOL (You know they are still going to buy stuff - it's just BORING not to.)

I knew the answer to my question. It was rehtorical :)

Maybe a better non-rhetorical question is.....

If you go and buy something you know you don't need and it turns out to be not as good as what you have, why come on the internet and complain about the manufacturer when you should be kicking yourself in the butt?
