I have been racing a long time but this coming weekend will be my first crack at Lipo in my EDM. I got out my new, one, battery tonight to charge but could not get the job done. I know I am probably doing something stupid because I have have zero experience with lipo. Something about teaching old dogs new tricks...
Anyway I am trying to charge the Lipo on my GFX I just got back from getting the Lipo update.
The battery I am using is a Checkpoint 5400 mah
I bought the team checkpoint balancer as well.
This is what confuses me. The battery is a 2C but yet the label on the battery says to charge no higher 1c. The GFX Lipo instructions state to charge at 1c unless the manufacter says otherwise. If the battery is a 2c why charge at 1c? What am I missing?
Anyway I set my GFX to charge 1c and turned the mah to 5400. I put the balancer in-line per the instructions and made sure the balancer was set to charge mode and the 2c indicator light is on.
I hit charge for the first time already to charge my first Lipo and the following error came up on the GFX "High Voltage Error". The volt meter on the GFX reads 7.61.
Now I realize the the battery is a 7.4 volt battery and my charger is reading 7.61 which tells me maybe the battery has come already charged. If this thing has held a charge that well sitting on the shelf in the package... Then damn am I impressed. With that being said, most of my traditional packs peak well over 9.0 volt so why would the Lipo not take a charge at only 7.61 volts?
Should the charger be set to 2c? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.
