Just wanted to start a thread about a new track & hobby store, Pin Shop Hobbies in Oakville, CT.

Pin Shop is a family owned and operated hobby shop which has an indoor oval track and an Outdoor Off-Road track. They also have a dirt oval built into the off-road track.

I've only been there twice myself but the people are very friendly, the store is well stocked and the track is lots of fun. It is a bit small but that makes for close racing and really sharpens one's passing skills. At present they are very open with regards to classes. Truggy, 1/8th buggy and Monster Truck as been run in both of the two races this season. 1/10th scale electric vehicles are also welcome and the track is very 1/10th friendly.

If the first two weeks are any indication, I think I'll be spending a lot of Saturday afternoons at Pin Shop!

Off Road Racing takes place on Saturday's, practice begins around 3pm and racing starts around 4pm. More details can be found on their web site here:

I've only been there twice and only for the off-road so I don't know what the deal is for the dirt oval. I'd suggest you hit their web site and either send an email off to Steve (one of the two owners) or just give them a call.

Saturday was my first time there, and my first organized race ever! I finished 2nd in the monster truck A-Main, and they gave me a $25 gift certificate to the store! It was awesome! Great track layout, not a carnage track. Really nice people and a totally fun way to spend a saturday afternoon!

Bad weather forecasts kept me from heading down to the track yesterday. Does anyone know if they managed to squeeze the races in between the rain?

Pin Shop

Yes, We got the races in but not a very good turn out due to weather. Hopefully more racers next week. As for the Dirt Oval we are trying to have it up and running next sunday at 3pm. We will see who shows up. We will definetly have a 2wd late Model Class and will make more classes up as we get going.

Yeah...makes me a bit worred about my (electric) motor temps...my brushless setup is not to happy when the ambient temp gets close to 90....may have my first "thermal" of the season.

I'll strap on an extra fan or two...see if that helps.

docphysics

don't worry - the Nitros hate those ambient temps as well. I expect alot of flame outs. :drunk:

I have SEVERAL guys interested in your dirt oval. Our local dirt oval in New Milford closed down before the start of the 2008 season. We ran 1/10 EDM class (Custom Works GBX, Putnam ProCars, B3's, B4's). We used to run Saturday nights, but Sundays might work.

I will stop by tomorrow after work to check the place out. See ya!

I stopped by the Hobby Shop & track today. Very nice shop. I love the indoor HIGH banked carpet oval. For those who remember the old indoor banked track at Xtreme in New Milford, it's almost the same, but with flat straights. The outdoor dirt oval looks promising. It is incorporated into the off-road layout. There is a new load of nice clay already there to be spread & prepped before Sunday's open practice. The track has turns similar radius to GMX, little larger and flatter. The straights are loooong, about twice what GMX had. Kinda like a paperclip. Bring motor (and brakes). Very nice, brand new, sturdy driver's stand. Power is available via extension cords, it would be smart to bring extra cords/power strips until things get figured out. Bring your own pit tables & chairs.

Any dirt oval guys that read this, please get the word out.
Congrats to the guys at Pin Shop Hobbies, very nice facility!

are they changing the layout of the off-road track, or just resurfacing what is already there?

onge65
06-04-2008, 10:14 PM
just resurfacing ,maybe tweaking like building up berms on main oval turns and smoothing out straits etc but not changing layout that I know off

Electric Dave

I'd be cool with some new twists to the off-road part...maybe throw in a triple!

Then again, I do like going home each week with a fully functional truck!

Not sure who is coming tomorrow. I've tried to spread the word as best as I could (I only learned about the track earlier this week). Most guys already had commitments.

Once you start a dedicated thread on the Dirt Oval section, word will spread quick.

I've got to tell you Brad, as a guy who only raced on Sunday's in years past, I'm really loving racing Saturday afternoon's. For starters you get almost all day Saturday to get stuff done around the house or work (Since the program doesn't start until 3pm...and you could push it to 3:45 if you had to) and then Sunday is open for whatever! Given the choice I prefer the Saturday off-road myself.

This week, in that insane heat, there were 6 truggies, 5 1/8th buggies and 9 Monster trucks! Pin Shop has a true "club race" following! Each week, you know they will be racing (and that is very cool!)
