CadillacPat 05-20-2008, 07:03 PM Looks like we're almost half way there Gunn.
I mailed mine Priority around lunchtime.
Had I waited until tomorrow Overnight Express would have been an extra $20.
It should arrive by Friday and maybe even Thursday, but if anything happens and it's late just put it in the pile of Prize Cars.
Thanks for the Show,

CadillacPat 05-21-2008, 12:15 AM I don't know exactly what day Gunn first mentioned the idea of this Event.
The first official post seems to be March 31 so it seems like I remember some talk a few days before that.
That's a full 8 weeks that have passed.
I had my first Chevelle put together just days after conversation began but my Decals read, HobbyTalk Custom Races.
Then when I noticed the name ThunderDome I knew that would look great on the Decals so I began changing things.
Then the MatchBox VW Camper Van caught my eye and I stopped and made a few of those.
Then the MBox '69 Cadillac caught my eye and I had to Customize some of them.
Then the HW '77 Van caught my eye and I started on a few of those.
Then the new HW 40 Ford Convertible came out and naturally I had to strip some of them.
Finally just the other day when I thought I was making great headway on my ThunderDome cars I found the new HW '68 HemiCuda and after stripping one I had to force myself to get back on my ThunderDome cars.
After nearly 8 weeks of lead time, granted I do have nearly 20 ThunderDome cars finished and several of the others I've mentioned, I finally mailed my entry at the very last minute today.
Very same way with term papers in High School and College.

well with all thats been going on here i have been stretched out and me and dustin plan on painting the main track white and he has hand drawn out lettering to go on the side of the track reading...thunder dome dragway... i spent most of the day at doctors and lawyers office. so that made for along day and my back is killing me. then 2 storms rolled in dropping hale as big as golf balls. ripping tarps breaking 1 window and ripping tree limbs apart. and woke up at 12 am to find a 3rd storm comming threw. so now im heading into work with only a couple hrs sleep. lol o-well nothing new..
2 days left. im ready are you?
craftymore 05-22-2008, 10:19 PM Hope you had a good Mopar mechanic check out that torquiflite transmission in my Cuda Gunn. That thing was running hot when it left the Craftymore Garage several weeks ago. Should have ran a trans cooler.
Oh well, there is always room for improvement in building a car for the next race!

bob8748 05-23-2008, 05:04 PM Hey, I made it. A 3:00 pm race is good. Man this is fun! Cut them a break gunn.
straightnnarrow 05-23-2008, 05:17 PM I say give them a chance, Lightning44 says his was coming overnight which apparently wasn't guaranteed. Has anybody seen mattgto on any of the threads? I can't remember seeing him post on any of them.
Just checked and mattgto hasn't been on since the 13th, 10 days ago, I'm thinking he may not make it.
rlyoung1 05-23-2008, 07:01 PM Leave it to the youngsters to delay things. ;)
3pm is fine with me since that is only noon here. :)
transambill 05-23-2008, 07:14 PM I'm all for waiting. Give the guys time for there cars to arrive.

ClearHooter 05-23-2008, 10:03 PM SCCA's got a saying...or two...or three about rain.
1. "Real men race cars in the rain"
2. "What good's a car you can't drive in the rain?"
3. "That's why they make rain tires and windshield wipers." :p
Just kid'n. I'd like things to be as even as possible and rain, would throw in an unknown varible.
But it might be interesting just for the heck of it.
i forgot to add this...camarors is racing mattgto in heat #3 if matt is a no show. camarors gets a free ride..But still has to run the track solo. if he flips over or goes off track he is dq. he must stay on track.
dcpdguy is running lightning44 in heat#5 same rules apply.
sound fare???
addicted2164s 05-23-2008, 10:16 PM sounds fare to me gunny..cant wait for the race....
DCPDGUY 05-23-2008, 10:19 PM Sounds fair, but would hate to win on a bye run. Come on USPS.

I got faith in USPS...Usually just got to give 'em three days though.

Thats what I was told when I shipped mine overnight.
Shipped it Wednesday and told them it had to be there by Friday. The lady at the PO said express is usually there within 3 days but the only way to "guarantee" it getting there on time is to overnight it and it would be delivered by 3pm the next day.
camarors 05-23-2008, 11:42 PM sounds ok to me. I hope I don't DQ
ClearHooter 05-24-2008, 12:11 AM Yeah. Carriers have to divert from their route to get the express stuff handled. If they don't get there on time they get wrote up.
CadillacPat 05-24-2008, 12:30 AM Overnight is Express.
2-3 Days is called Priority.
I shipped a box the size of an RLC box (smaller than a cigar box) to Arizona from Houston using FedEx Overnight and it cost me $64.
I shipped a box the size of a large cereal box using USPS Overnight Express to California and it cost me $24.
Both arrived on time the next day but the Postal Service was 40 bucks cheaper.
Plus, you can walk in most Post Offices anytime of the day or night and mail your own packages in their Automatic Kiosk.

I've always thought it funny that, in our area, UPS makes it difficult to send a package. Odd ours, no local phone, won't ship original art work...:freak: No kiddin'. I used USPS even before my wife started working there. If you want to really get down to it. Given the absolute overwhelming volume they have to deal with every day, gas prices the way they're getting, it is really one "government" system that works. And I think they usually opperate in the black.
