Yep... the original Bell 222 was converted back to stock condition after the series, used as a medivac chopper, and was destroyed on a rescue flight when it crashed, killing all aboard.

I enjoyed the first season very much.The second season started to delve into the realm of stupidity, and after that, yes, it was unwatchable.

No, what was REALLY terrible was that USA Network/Arthur L. Annecharicho-produced 4th season.

The budget was so low, they couldn't even fly the helicopter! One shot, I remember, looked like they motorized the rotors of the AMT kit, and video-gumped it in!:drunk:

Plus a closeup of the crew getting into the chopper used a big plywood mockup of the door and side, which looked nothing like the real thing.

Never cared for Airwolf.

Obvious ripp-off of Blue Thunder.

Blue Thunder is much more of a bad-a** helo than the AirWolf.

It sold for $60,000. Seems like a good price for a helicopter airframe, even one without engines.

Would look cool on a pole in my front yard! And would be worth it just to piss-off the neighbors...

Which was kinda funny, considering they had The Lady on set in Toronto. They just couldn't fly her.

About the only things notable were a pre-Forever Knight Geraint Wyn-Davies and a pre-Alien Nation Michelle Scarabelli.

After this, I began to wonder if Barry Van Dyke was cursed. First, Galactica 1980, then Airwolf. But then, he went in knowing that his services were only going to be needed for one season. The only reason a 4th season was made was to insure enough for daily syndication "stripping."

I never really thought Barry Van Dyke was much of an actor, anyhoo. Kinda had no personality, the opposite of his father.
