View Full Version : New Ride
Slott V 05-14-2008, 12:59 PM Put money down on this last night. I can't sit still all day. Friend owned it for 20 years and I've been trying to get it off of him since last year.
1968 Caprice Classic with just about every option you could get. My new 'gangsta' cruiser: :dude: (looks like something out of Good Fella's)

Why do you think he left the cover over the rear window in the pics? Bullet holes.
Nice car, excellent shape it looks like. What's she got in her?

Thanks guys- I'm pretty excited. 396, T-400, 12 bolt w/posi, virtually every option you could order including the Corvette 4 piston caliper front disc brakes, hidden headlights and the fender mounted fiber optic signal indicators. It is the "Caddy of Chevy's". I need to go through the motor. My friend rebuilt it but it developed a knock right after he got it running and he was so frustrated he parked it. Sounds like a rounded cam lobe. I'm planning on putting some big rollers on it, dropping it in the weeds and piling all my buddies in it. Eventually I'm getting the AirRide system for it and then finish the restoration.

grungerockjeepe 05-14-2008, 07:19 PM Wow. I really, REALLY hate 4 door sedans. I mean I have an almost psychotic hatred of them. But I have to admit that IS a nice car. I think that hidden headlite custom grille is whats helping to sell me on it!
dreinecke 05-14-2008, 08:10 PM From one '68 (Chevelle) owner to another...I love that car! Very nice, and with the sport roof, I like the 4 doors! Enjoy it, it looks like a fun ride!

Ya the headlights make the car. You never see them. Plus a 4 door with a big block is pretty cool. I had a 1994 Impala SS that was a 4 door with the new gen LT1 and it hauled the groceries pretty good. ;)
There are only a few 4 doors worthy of cool, and another would be the older Lincolns that had suicide doors.

Nice Chevelle. I had a '69 SS when I was younger and a friend had a '68 like yours but an SS396. He found the '68 in the paper. It wasn't listed as an SS. It was an oriental family that owned it and they had no idea what it was. It had the original 396 and a bench seat/column shift. He got it for a steal. Thanks for the flashback.

Gotta agree on those old lincolns, like they had in The Matrix. The lines of that car hide the fact that its a sedan. Id never own one, but I have to admit also that the 300C has a pretty bold style. If I actually WERE a sedan guy, thats what Id want my car to look like, instead of the econobox, company car, blue-hair sled, or daddys grocery getter look that defines what sedans are.
Now wagons on the other hand, 4-door or not, can be VERY cool. MyToder has a pic of his honey's AMC hornet wagon and those are SICK. I saw a pic of one somewhere on the net similar to it, the dude had it raked down on some fat slicks, cragar SS's all around, black with a nice airbrushed flame job and a built-to-the-hilt 401 under the hood.
Slott V 05-16-2008, 10:53 AM Lots of cool cars here guys. Gar that Road Runner is awesome!
Grunge, I almost forgot another cool 4 door I had. A bit out of class from the street car talk but it was a great looking car, smart and fun. Just had no power with that 1.8 Kompressor. My boss talked me into buying but I ended up trading it in for my GTO. Imagine that, trading a 'Benz for a Pontiac. :p

I bet you do miss it, looks like it was a great car. I hope you got real good cash for it!

68 mark 3 I think, 460 cid suicide doors man what a ride! There was a convert around here for sale but it needed a full frame off. Too bad...

Yeah I know it sounds strange, but Id say you made the right choice. 2 doors, rwd, v-8 power, styling thats clean even if it isnt striking. Yeah, thats what Id have done. But then outside of the drop top G-wagens and those 2-seat roadsters like in 'Used Cars' Benz's dont do much for me. Too professional looking or something. Now, an M3 coupe or audi S5 on the other hand...
