View Full Version : What is the best 1/32 Home Track?
flem1959 05-12-2008, 10:18 AM I am thinking about setting up a 1/32 track at home.
Which brand is the best to go with?
I want something that is going to be smooth. I will get better controllers, I just want a track that will go together well and the cars will run well on.
BRS Hobbies 05-12-2008, 11:14 AM A lot of different 1/32 track systems on the market and you will find that each track system has positive and negative features depending on your situation. A few questions to get started are -
1) How much space do you have?
2) Will the track be a temporary or more of a permanent layout?
3) Will you only be racing 1/32 scale slot cars on the track or would you like to be able to race 1/32 and 1/24 scale slot cars?
4) Do you have any interest in setting up an offroad/rally track?
5) Are you looking for a Digital track or do you have any plans to go to Digital in the future? Some brands of 1/32 track can be converted to Digital.
Best regards,
Brian
MARCUS 05-22-2008, 01:24 PM What amout a crowd, are you trying to intertain?
We are getting ready to do a track this summer and we're going with the Carrera track, due to the size. We have the space, to set up the Carrera Track. It's going to be to our advantage, because of the way we race. It's a track...inwhere you can run 1/24, 1/32 or 1/43 scales cars. We like it better...do to the 1/32 scale tracks, the rails are closer to each other and in the turns....when you are bumping & grinding...you or the other racer, have the advatage or disadvantage of knocking 1 another out of the slot. With the 1/24 Carrera Track....you are spaced farther apart and less of that happens. That's all good Though!, when you really want to lay down the power fo the car. It's All Good!!!
So ck out what Brian was saying about the in you requested....it's the truth and vey smart to take all of this in and take your time....to do an awesome...personalized Raceway. When you need to get the pit are together...to make space for the racers, just don't forget our Customized PitMats.....for the Racers Pit Area. LOL
WE WISH YOU THE BEST....WITH YOUR LAYOUT!!!

rodstrguy 05-22-2008, 03:09 PM Router out your own, Cheaper, smoother, and make it as big as you want. Simple to do,and just adds to the overall hobby... A car battery, a trickle charger some Parma econo controllers and away you go.
Jim Norton 05-22-2008, 04:47 PM My re-introduction to 1/32 scale slots came through Scalextric Sport track. So, far it has been a great track system to work with.
My only complaint is the lack of extensive "special" tracks. For example, a curved chicane is offered but no straight chicane.

T-Jet Racer 05-22-2008, 05:05 PM I have the scx type of scalectric track it has a rough surface that helps keep the cars from sliding out. If I was to start over I would go with the carrea track. It has a deeper slot . I hope this helps, if there are tracks in your area that use sectional plastic track go try them out and ask what type it is. Here in NY Bud's ho has this type of track and I believe it is carrea track sections, we went there once it was awesome!
MARCUS 05-22-2008, 05:22 PM Rod. that's true about the routed track but if you build 1 your some what stuck with it. I'm saying, it is cheaper but in the long run I'm sure, that someone....is going to want to change the routed layout, to keep the set & racing interested. you can do that alot....with the plastic track....that's save alot of monies. Not as smooth as a routed track but has alot more design options.
Thx Rod!
rodstrguy 05-23-2008, 10:06 AM Marcus, with a little planning you can make multiple tracks by building one track with a lift out piece that converts the track to different layouts. I am building one now that goes from a tri-oval to a road course. There are some fine examples on another slot cars site: homeracingworld. There is a pretty cool small footprint rally track on slotcarillustrated too. If plastic track is what is wanted for ease of setup and changing that's cool. I'm just putting it out there that if you really want a track, Build it...
Mexkilbee 05-23-2008, 11:10 AM I like the rubbin and bumpin on Scalectric, but I also like the Carrera due to it's lower magnetic downforce, but I don't like the spacing of the rails. But I do like the depth of the slot, and the strip of plastic in-between the flag and the rails. but I aslo like the flexibility of Scalelectric......, So, Like flem asked what is the best track system? $4.05.9 a gal. in Buff, NY
BRS Hobbies 05-23-2008, 11:20 AM You will find that the best track system for one user may not be the best track system for another user. If you have a chance, please answer the questions that I listed above. Based on your answers, I can recommend the best track system that will suit your needs.
Best regards,
Brian
dmarcus48 05-24-2008, 08:48 PM I got into the hobby back in August of 07. I did a lot of research and decided on Carrera track for myself. Now that I've gotten in deeper (oh so deep) into the hobby and want to set up a permanent track, I've switched over to Scalextric. For me it's a space issue, I don't have a lot of space and I can fit more track into my space with Scalextric than with Carrera. Nothing wrong with either. For my purposes there really wasn't a lot of difference between the two since I'm going with a separate power supply and aftermarket controllers now.

MARCUS 05-25-2008, 09:17 AM Rod, that's true also. It's little more work but if you want to be able, to change up the track....that's the best way to it.
Note:
When doing a personalized track....it is a few very good pointer. Your pocket gets the 1st pointer and the rest is on your style, space, running magnets or no magnets etc. So we suggest you take your time and just keep these guys ideals in mind....when you go for the true build. If you don't....it can really cost you. That's all you need, is to build a track and not be totally happy with your 1st build. We all wish you luck....as you see.
Thx All!
RMMseven 06-01-2008, 08:31 AM There is no answer to the question "what is the BEST 1/32 home track" unless the word best is defined.
There are some good choices for 1/32 home track and I've enjoyed great racing on Artin, Carrera, vintage Monogram, Ninco, vintage Revell, Scalextric Classic, Scalextric Sport and vintage Strombecker.
