View Full Version : Show us what you hitch to your favourite cars
SMS88 05-09-2008, 03:16 PM The weekend is here and a whole lot of folks will be hitching caravans, boats and trailers to their cars this weekend.Matchbox put tow hooks on a whole bunch of cars and made some fine boats and trailers to hitch, so if there are any you particularly like ,why not share them with everyone?

Very nice collection, very nice indeed. I have a grey food trailer as well. Being *ever-so-slightly* overweight, I think it's a great casting.
ilan benita 05-10-2008, 02:56 AM Very nice collection.
SMS88 05-10-2008, 03:15 PM I like that cream lunch wagon Karl:thumbsup:it has always eleuded me so far. When I was 7 or 8 I visited a friend who had just inherited a bunch of rw, including a silver lunch wagon which he chose to hook up to the no7 Ford Anglia although I can remember suggesting the 38 Vauxhall station wagon but he didnt agree - I still know this guy more than 30 years later and he still owns the very same lunch wagon and I own his Anglia from those days.It took me more than 30 years to finally own my own lunchwagon, its a bit playworn but the Anglia was the obvious towcar. I like the way Lesney livened up the colours of the Minx -turquoise & cream is nicer than 2 tone gray which was a departure from the allover grass green of the first issue

As a child my pink 23 caravan was usually pulled by my 25 Cortina -looks totally natural for me.I didnt have a yellow 23 or a red 22 as a child , but they do look good together today:)

Anybody seeing a typical Lesney store display in the early 1960s would probably see a no 22 Cresta next to a 23 caravan. The last gold & bronze cars would be alongside the 23c in lilac/brown shade, the first pink cars would be alongside a blue 23a or 23b and the gray/pink two-tone cars make a fine match with the last 23b issue in lime.Best match for the 23c that I can make is the purple 39 Pontiac convertible.Twas fun moving around the cars for these pix:hat:

The Moutain 05-12-2008, 09:24 PM nice theme topic, and some cool pictures. like the shadow effect on the picture with the purple convertible.
a few more theme topics would be nice and playing with cars too.
tough to say what would be my favorite, so here are a few combinations.
transitional hauling (well almost);)

As a child I preferred to tow my no 9 rw boat with the 45 Corsair, although the boat on the roof of my childhood example probably was lost within days of getting the toy.Part of Lesney´s philosophy of giving a full standard size box full of car, the Corsair was scaled down to allow for the boat to fit in the box too.In reality, the 1:1 Corsair was the same size as the Cortina GT (Lesney no 25)

The Moutain 05-18-2008, 07:53 PM agree, the t-bird is sweet.
the yellow sk-11 truck with the AA labels as pictured on the box was the more common release.

SMS88 05-24-2008, 02:11 PM Perhaps the most famous diecast hitched pair of all time (and not made by Lesney:freak:) in the eyes of most diecast collectors is probably this pair, which featured as a gift set continuously from 1967 to 1981 coinciding with the non-stop reruns of the 1966 TV series.Much as I like my Lesney Matchbox cars, the Barris Batmobile is high end diecast and has been ever since its 1966 launch without the towhook......a treasured part of my collection

karl-e 05-25-2008, 03:50 AM In the mid sixties Corgi gave us some of the best 1:43 toycars ever, always one step ahead of Dinky and others.
Matchbox and Corgi ruled their respective fields.
The play-value and quality of models like the 1965 007 Aston Martin and the 1966 Batmobile were almost unbeliveble high, both models were top-sellers and sold more than 4.000.000 (007) and 5.000.000 (Batmobile) and there are still a lot around
I had both models when I was a kid (but lost them sometime in the 70's :freak:)
Later, after I started collecting, The Batmobile was one of the first I had to obtain, and the 007 was found cheap but needs resto of the catapult.
The Batboat is not my "cup of tea" it feels cheap (to much plastic), I had one, incl. the black plastic-gizmo that was used to connect it to the early version of the Batmobile.....I traded it for some nice Matchbox and Tomte :p
